I believe that many Ameriacans would prefer to read about Miley than Syria because they dont want to hear about bad news. I think as Americans we tend to ignore the problem if it is not happening directly in front of us. Unlike Israel and Russia who did not follow the pop trend, they are much closer to the issue. I think this causes them to be more concerned about the issue.

  2. I think the Americans would prefer to read and know about pop culture stories because it would make you seem cool. If you know all about politics and newsly related information people may not like that you don't know pop related information. The two countries that did not Follow the pop trend are Israel and Russia. I think they read more about news because most countries rival one another and they could be reading to make sure that no one is planning to attack them.

  3. I think that people would rather prefer pop culture over the news is because most people think that the pop culture is more interesting than the news. Or other people are trying to block out the troubles and horrors of the world. The two countries that were the only ones who didnt follow the pop culture were Israel and Russia. I think that they take the news more seriously than the pop culture because of how their legal system is, or maybe they just dont care about pop culture. -Jordan Chestnut

  4. In my opinion many more Americans prefer to read pop-culture over important things because it appeals to their interest more. The pop-culture buzz with Miley happened so it has taken effect and people want to talk about it. While nothing has taken place with Syria yet, but once something happens if anything does its popularity will increase. Like with a touchy subject of 9.11.01 no one really cared about terrorism taking place because it hadn't happened before but after it happened we went out of our way to secure things so it wouldn't happen again. Things aren't of peoples interest until after something happens. Israel and Russia didn't follow the pop trend I think these countries read more about the news because Israel and Russia may have experienced something like what is happening in Syria.

  5. I think people prefer this because, for the younger generation at least, we don't really worry or think about those kind of things that are happening. People listen to Miley Cyrus have seen her performances and are more interested in that. I think that Israel and Russia didn't follow this because they were more involved in the Syria situation more than the others. So, they focused more on the problem instead of looking at unimportant things. - Abby Nelson

  6. Miley Cyrus has probably been the center of attention for too long I must say. 15 seconds of fame? More like 15 billion years of fame (a tad exaggerated, but only a little bit). Americans enjoy something that catches their eye, such as a washed up child star turning into a completely different person. Israel and Russia were the two countries that didn't participate in grossly over-animating this person. I'm guessing some people care more about pop culture than politics and there might not even be a reason why, it just happens.

I have to admit, I fall into the guilty party. I was more interested in twerking than the Syrian crisis. One of the reasons I think me and a lot of other people fell into this category for the same reason: what other people talk about. The U.S.’s political stance on Syria isn’t exactly top notch conversation material-though it should be. Now the question is if people are talking about Miley Cyrus’ risqué performance because they are reading about it or it’s the other way around (chicken before the egg kind of thing). I think people are more interested in pop culture because it is “cooler”. You are not going to be scorned for not knowing two million Syrians have become refugees but you will be for not knowing who Justin Beiber is. Russia and Israel were the two countries who were not more interested in Miley Cyrus. I am not sure why Russia would be one of the only countries, but I guess Russians are just a little more down to earth. Israel, on the other hand can relate a lot to what is going on and also probably have very limited knowledge on Miley Cyrus.

I believe that they would choose this because they think it is more interesting. A pop-culture story is more followed because it has fans and people that hate it. Russia and Israel payed more attention to war because it more directly affects them. They also do not care as much about pop culture. Israel has attacked Syria themselves. America should care more about Syria. Pop-culture is rediculous and shouldn't matter to anyone. A war is a lot more important.

So many Americans would prefer to read the pop-culture story than the news story because Miley Cyrus is so famous and is making such an outburst that it draws in more of the teenagers than something about the war would. Israel and Russia were the only two countries listed that did not follow the pop trend. Russia and Israel probably more worried about the bombing in Syria because there closer to Syria and want to sat posted about what is going to happen.

  10. I think many Americans would rather read about something that's lacking seriousness as opposed to following a story that is very serious, like the developing war in Syria. I however, would much rather read about Syria than whatever Miley Cyrus is doing. The only two countries that are not following the pop trend are Israel and Russia. They may be reading more about the news story because it might affect them.

So many Americans preferred to read pop-culture other than the news about Syria, simply because most of generation only cares about social, and entertaining subjects. They'd rather jest about Miley Cyrus's performance other than the escalating war in Syria. Israel and Russia did not follow this pop trend. Both of these countries are much closer to Syria than we are, so they will be reading about Syria other than American pop stars such as Miley Cyrus.

  12. I think more Americans would read about pop-culture over a top news story because there are alot more young people today, and young people don't care that much about news as they do about "pop-culture". I think Russia and Israel didn't follow the pop trend because in Israel not many people have internet access, and in Russia I think that they just don't care about Miley Cyrus. Maybe nuclear warheads are more interesting???

I think that so many Americans prefer stories about Miley Cyrus to the news about Obama being willing to bomb Syria because it is easier to focus on fluffy stories, then serious ones. My mom and I learned that two out of four people do not want to bomb Syria, one out of four people do want to bomb Syria, and one out of four people simply do not care. The two countries listed that were not following the pop trend are Russia and Israel. I think that Russia and Israel read more about the news because that is what really matters to them and they have more to worry about then what a girl wears and how she acts.

  14. I think that many Americans would rather read about a pop-culture story than a news story because the pop-culture entertains us more, and we relate to it. Two countries that didn't follow the pop trend were Israel and Russia. I think this is because they might have a news story daily about there country or there government make them.

Well I think this is very idiotic of most people to pay more attention to Miley Cyrus twerking than on the war in Syria. So you don't care if we go to war but you care about a girl twerking. We might be starting a World War Three and no one cares if we send thousands maybe even millions of soldiers over there to their death. No one knows it could be a blood bath and d-day all over again. How do people know a draft might start and this is the war we lose I would hate for that to happen. I know that twerking and every thing is popular in dancing these days but people come pay attention to something else for a change. If there is any thing we need to be putting a lot of attention to its the war.

I think America likes to read the easy and fun stuff and not about war.

    Russia and Israel

They are more interested in war than we are.

  17. This article makes me mad. But the thing is everyone i asked about it they did the same thing. In my opinion we should worry more about what is happening that could affect the well being of our country, not what's happening with some singers butt.
