We began reading selections from Edgar Allen Poe in today's class.  We read through and analyzed "The Raven" and began reading "The Cask of Amontillado."

In today's class, we discussed satire and George Orwell's reasons for writing, as he discussed them in his essay "Why I Write."

Homework:  Students need to read chapters 1-5 in Animal Farm by tomorrow (Wednesday, May 14).  They will have a reading quiz on those chapters and the Orwell notes tomorrow in class.

Homework:  Students can go to the following Quizlet website, made by one of their peers, to review terms that may be unfamiliar to them and that they may see on the AP exam.

We spent time in today's class peer-reviewing the essays that the students have written over the past week.  We then read Poe's "The Raven" and annotated it for specific uses of imagery, allusion, and characterization.

Pre-AP English 9 (5th)
Students quoted the first twelve lines of "The Canterbury Tales Prologue" in today's class, before we began reading through Romeo and Juliet.

In today's class, we finished our pre-study of Shakespeare in preparation for reading Romeo and Juliet.

Homework:  Students need to bring their copy of Romeo and Juliet with them to class on Monday.
