AP Language and Composition
After turning in their JFK annotations, students analyzed a Colgate advertisement to discover what appeal the ad was creating.  Afterwards, we began listening to a speech by General Douglas MacArthur entitled "Duty, Honor, Country."

Homework:  Students need to finish reading and annotating General MacArthur's speech; to make a Brassil Sphere identifying the speaker, audience, message, and purpose of the speech; and to write a paragraph enumerating the rhetorical strategies that General MacArthur uses to accomplish his purpose.

Pre-AP English 9
After turning in their revised summer reading essays and TKAM essays, we continued watching the film adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird in class today.

Homework:  Students need to obtain their copies of the next two novels we will be reading in class by September 30 (A Separate Peace and Of Mice and Men).  The extra-credit movie will also be show in class this week.  Students should have written down the times that the movie will be shown.  Students must attend each showtime in its ENTIRETY to receive the extra credit.

Advanced English 9
In today's class, we continued analyzing James Hurst' "The Scarlet Ibis" and annotating the piece for instances of figurative language and visual imagery.
