A white hacker who found a way to figure out who posts what on secret.

A white hacker is a person who hacks with ethical intentions.

If a hacker hacks purely to help others and find exploits in things and not steal others identities then they can be considered a white hacker.

The hackers made fake emails and phone numbers because Secret doesn't check authenticity and then added one real address or phone number and when something was posted they knew it could only be that one person who they didn't make up.

People should be able to post stuff anonymously but it should be traced back only if needed. The government should monitor for things such as threats and terrorist related posts and online privacy is important to keep your identity safe from all the strange people that roam the internet.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a white-hat-hacker.
    2. A white hacker is someone that hacks the app "Secret".
    3. There is such thing as a white hacker because many hackers does different kind of hacking on the computer.
    4. white-hat-hackers discovered 28 ways of how to get through to people by using their email address or facebook or even their phone number.
    5. Online Privacy is very important. But people should watch what they put on the internet even though it can be traced back to them. All the content does not have to be monitored but people should have common sense to know what to and what not to put on the internet.

    2. White-hat hackers are people who consider themselves ethical hackers.
    3. Yes, I think someone can be a white-hat hacker. All hackers are not the same because white-hat hackers can show companies ehat a hacker with bad intentions could do. I mean, if you can't beat the bad guy, then hire them!
    4. They manipulated the adding friends feature and created dummy accounts.
    5. People should be able to post anything they want, but should definitely realize that the Internet is the worst place to do so. All things are monitored no matter what. (I'm probably being monitored as I write this post!). Online privacy is highly important. People's Google search history know more about them than the people around them. It's not really about it really being anonymous, but more of having the "feeling" of anonymity.

No, not all hackers are the same. Some are stupid teenagers trying to invade others privacy or creepy old men trying to spy on people through the cameras of their computers. But others are doing it for their benefit of their job like ATT workers can get on your phone and see your text messages for police evidence or somebody sending hateful messages to somebody.
    3. They would create fake accounts and add them as friends and have only one real friend, making it an easy way to figure out their secrets
    4. I think people should be able to post to a website anonymously but to some extent. The creator of the website should be able to see who posts what but the users should not unless you make it to where people know who post it.
    5. Content of the websites should be monitored because if somebody posts something hateful towards another person it should be removed. Online privacy is important but if you don’t want anybody to know something you posted in secret, don’t post it keep it to yourself. The only secret that can be kept is between you and yourself if you tell somebody there’s no guarantee that it is going to stay a secret for long

    1. a "white hat hacker"
    2. a hacker that considers their hacking ethical.
    3. in my opinion the only hackers that aren't bad are hackers that are either hacking to figure something out that could possibly save lives or hackers that prevent crimes
    4. Caudill created fake accounts and replaced one persons friends with the fake accounts
    5. people should be able to post whatever they want because they know that anybody can see what they are posting and they shouldn't be stupid enough to think that people like Caudill can't find out who posted it.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a White House Hacker.
2.They are those that consider themselves ethical hackers.
    3. All hackers are the same because they all are after one goal.
    4. "Secret" was hacked by a user creating a "dummy" account and using someone else's real e-mail. The website uses your contacts to see people's post. When you see your friends post, you can then verify who the person is.
    5. People should be able to post anything online without it being traced back to them. When things happen to people and they have no one to tell, but want to tell people, it is easy to write it online where no one will know it was you. Why would people want to hack on to something like this? People post on this website so people will not know who they are. If they knew people where able to find out, they wouldn't post on the website. It is absurd that people have enough interest and time to hack on to websites.

    2. A "white-hat hacker" is a person who considers themselves an ethical hacker.
    3. I believe that all hackers are the same, although they might have significantly different reasons why they are hacking someone.
    4. Secret was hacked by manipulating the process of adding friends by creating "dummy" accounts and then making the system believe that their was a large group of friends and that the friends' secrets would be anonymous. The "victim" was then added to the group, and their friends' secrets would then be identified.
    5. I believe that people should be able to post anything to any website anonymously, but I also think that content should be monitored lightly. If it is harmful or abusive content then it should be stopped. Online privacy is also really important, but unfortunately there is not much of that now. My comment on this statement is, "If you can't say it aloud, then don't post it online."

    1. he is a "white-hacker" that was able to identify the names of people behind the supposedly anonymous posts on Secret by using personal e-mail addresses.
2.people who consider themselves to be ethical hackers.
3.Hackers are genially gifted at what they do. Hackers know computers like the back of their hands, most are really smart. In my opinion, a hacker has to be cunning and smart, and can get into just about anything without getting caught , but those who call themselves the "white hackers" are probably just your average hackers that call themselves this because they want to feel superior from the others. All hackers are the some no matter what kind of hacking skill they poses.
    4. Dummy accounts were created, these accounts are fake accounts that are used as if they were real accounts.
5.it all depends on whether or not the website actually protects those who chose to remain anonymous and only want certain people to see what they put online, if a web site is not like that they shouldn't let anyone be anonymous just because of the risks they could be taking because of not being protected. Either way you look at it hackers can trace just about anything so it doesn't really matter if the website is being monitored or not. Online privacy should be honored to those who want it, if they want privacy they should be able to have the freedom to put whatever they want online , but yet not make it to where they put something personal on there that could get them into trouble.

    3. White hackers do it for good reasons, but if you are just hacking to get money or information that is not involve you, that I do not agree with.
    4. They added real friends to the account and they added dummy accounts to the app afterwards, which made the app believe that they had a large friend group, but there was only one real person. So that one person's secrets were the only real thing on there.
    5. People should be able to post things without being worried that it will be tracked back to them in some cases, but other cases, yes they should be able to be searched back to that person. such as in bullying, murder cases, or something internet involved. Online privacy is important. some websites should have a private setting just so stalkers and criminals cant harm those people.

    5. I believe anyone should have the opportunity to post something anonymously if they choose. All content should be monitored because things such as cyberbullying are a big problem and people shouldn't be able to post things like that without any way of tracing it.
to a certain extent there should be some online privacy so people cant stalk you and get personal information but it shouldn't be so much so that what you say cannot be traced because it is your own responsibility when using the internet to not post stuff you wouldn't want anyone to see.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a white hacker.

    2. A "white hacker" is someone who looks or finds the security flaw and lets the owner know before a real hacker or "Black hat hacker" does any real damage. White hackers consider themselves ethical hackers.

    3. I believe there is such thing as a "white hacker" if they are trying to find a security problem before something serious happens. White hackers are supposed to be helpful to solve security problems.

    4. They added friends to the app to replace the real friends, which led the application to believe that they had a large group of friends and anyone of the friends' secret would be anonymous. Only one person was added, which was the victim and any secrets from the friends would look like theirs.

    5. I believe that what someone post online is a their choice, and no one should be monitoring it. Anything that one post on a website, social media, internet, etc. is up to them, which means they take the risk of posting it. If one post something, they are risking the consequence and also the backlash from what they have posted. One is also risking their privacy, even if the website guarantees it. There are always hackers or people who misuse the websites or any other online activities. I think that if something is posted, it is a personal choice and they are risking the consequences, backlash, and their privacy.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a white hat hacker who is helping to find names of people who anonymously post things on Secret.
    2. A white hacker is a person who considers themselves ethical hackers.
    3. In my opinion I believe not all hacking is bad. For example I believe if the National Government needs to hack into peoples personal emails or cellphone conversations to ensure the safety of Americans then yes I do believe there are good hackers. Yet, saying that I do believe MOST hackers are bad because of their intent.
    4. They created Dummy Accounts and manipulated the process of having friends to get the victim and then ultimately hacked the victim.
    5. In my opinion people should be able to post to websites anonymously, I think they should be able to post anonymously as much as they want for some people posting on social media is a type outlet. Personally, I do not partake in sharing all my business with the rest of the world I do not deem it to be necessary or smart. I do think all content should be monitored. I believe people should post things with an expectation of it being traced back to them, maybe this would cut down on cyber bullying as well as inappropriate content on social media sites. I believe online privacy is really important when it comes to banking and personal documents but when it comes to social media privacy is really all up to the user.

    4. The hackers manipulated the process of adding friends and replaced real ones with fake ones. A pool of 50 accounts was created for this experiment.
    5. I feel that people shouldn't be able to post anything anonymously. All content should be monitored and be able to be tracked because people could post stuff that could be hurtful to people and could make them harm themselves. Or if someone posted a threat then that should be able to be tracked. Online privacy is important, but not if it what is posted would be harmful to someone or something.

    4. Dummy accounts were assembled to create a large group of "friends" and the server recognized this large group allowing loop holes via the codes and etc. This eventually allowed the hackers to read the secrets of other people that was supposedly suppose to be secret.
    5. As much as they want as long as it isn't a crime. The server should have key words or phrases that trigger a monitoring system so nothing illegal occurs. Online privacy isn't that important, put if you expect privacy, I believe you should get it.

    4. By using multiple fake accounts and one real account, the "white hackers" were able to view the real user's "anonymous" posts.
    5. People should limit how much they post anonymously. Most content should be monitored in order to prevent a majority of people from getting offended, and if spoken things are illegal they should not go unnoticed. Online privacy is rather important because it can prevent stalkers and allows you to remain comfortable in your own viewing environment.

I think that content should be monitored and able to be tracked down to the user for safety purposes. If posts are to be traced back to the user, then it would cut down on many things. These things range from small things like cyber-bulling to being able to detect where a national threat came from. Online privacy is important in that random strangers are not able to see everything you post on the internet; however, I find it necessary for posts to be able to be tracked to someone if it imposes a big enough threat.

    4. Hackers Caudill and Seely created 50 fake accounts. On any given account they added at least 6 of their fake accounts as friends and added one "real" person so that person's posts would be easily identified.
    5. I think online activity should be monitored to a certain extent. I think it's extremely dangerous to allow everything a person posts to anonymous/untraceable. I think all online activity, anonymous or otherwise, should be electronically monitored 24/7. Only if someone is planning, posting or viewing content that could result in any harm to that person or anyone else should another person be allowed to observe another's activities, including cases in which said posts were deemed anonymous. In such cases, users should be informed beforehand that what they post will be anonymous to all other sources unless it is deemed threatening. Online privacy is important but not important enough that the safety of the general public should be compromised in order to obtain it.

    3. Yes, I do believe there is a such thing as a white hacker because not all hackers are using their skills for bad and manipulation.
    4. Secret was hacked by two men named Benjamin Caudill and Bryan Seely who figured out how to identify the names of people behind the allegedly anonymous posts on Secret by using their personal e-mail addresses. They created dummy accounts and instead used someone else's e-mail and made it seem like they had a large number of friends. Which let them know that posts were not anonymous.
    5. People should be allowed to post and publish whatever they want to because they do have the right to do that, but also be aware of what they are putting their self into. Content should not be monitored because a person should have common sense to never tell everything completely online. Nothing is ever 100% guaranteed that no one will know who it belongs to. Things can be traced in a variety of ways so never believe that it wont ever get back to you. Online privacy is extremely important and you should never post your most valuable secrets online in any means necessary.

1.) Benjamin Caudill is a "white-hat hacker" who uncovered the names of seemingly anonymous people who posted something on Secret.
2.) A "white-hat hacker" is someone who considers themself an ethical hacker.
3.) In my opinion, yes, there is such a thing as an "white-hat hacker." There is people who hack just because they can, but "white-hat" hackers could hack something for the greater good. They could be working for the military and hack into and decode a terrorist group's plans to alert the military.
4.) Secret was hacked by Caudill fairly easily. He used a "dummy" account with a fake email address and everything and was able to cause the app to believe that they had a large group of friends.
5.) I think that people should be able to post to a website anonymously as much as they want but should be moderately monitored just in case there is a threat of any sort towards someone or a crime threat; other than that, I think that comments or posts that don't have a malicious attitude should stay anonymous. Online privacy is a very good thing, but it should be monitored just in case.

I think all hackers are the same because they are hacking someone's privacy or getting into something they shouldn't
    4. Briefly explain the process by which Secret was hacked.
They were able to manipulate the app by creating fake e-mails and phone numbers because you didn't have to verify them. The app believed they were a large group of friends when really they weren't.
    5. How much should people be able to post to any website anonymously? Should all content be monitored, or should people be able to post anything with an assurance that it can be traced back to them? How important is online privacy?
It's okay to post anonymously unless you don't put out any personal information. But then again you may not know who a certain someone is. People today are making fake profiles everywhere and that is not ok!!!! All content should be monitored with an e-mail address or phone number to identify who a person is. For example there is a TV show that that deals with "catfishing" a person who isn't who they say they are over the internet. Online privacy is important and it's important to know who you're talking to and the websites you are dealing with.

    4. The process by which Secret was hacked: Real friends were replaced with "dummy" accounts. It makes it seems like you have a lot of friends, but in reality you only have added only one real person and all the secrets that are posted, you know have came from them.
    5. People should be able to post what they like if it's anonymous but also know that nothing you post online is guaranteed to be safe and post with caution even though it says it'll be anonymous. Online privacy is very important because you don't want the wrong person to get personal information and you shouldn't post anything you don't want anyone to know.

In reality, only one real person was added (the victim) so any secrets from friends would be identified as theirs.
    5. Anyone should be able to post on a website anonymously as much as they'd like but they should know that they do not have complete privacy. I don't think content should be monitored because if they are warned that hackers may or may not be able know what they are posting, then what they post is their decision and their consequences will be based on their decision. I also believe that online privacy is important but at the same time it is our own responsibility to have "online smarts" and not post anything you wouldn't want a serial killer to know.

    2) White hackers are able to see the supposedly anonymous identity of the people names who post things on Secret.
    3) No there is no such thing as white hackers because all hackers can do the same thing; which is go into someones personal business or identity.
    4) They setup a bunch of fake accounts causing the app to think it was a large group of friends. They then created 50 contacts cause Secret only needs you to have seven contacts to look at a friends post but really that friend of friends can see the post too. This can make it easy for any and every one to see your post and discover who you are.
    5) People should be able to post to any website anonymously whenever they would like. Some content should be monitored if there is a comment or question that sounds strange or out of the ordinary. Other than that no it shouldn't be monitored. 4. Caudill and Seely were able to make dummy accounts (no real email is required to make an account) in place of real "friends" on the account so that the app would think that they had plenty of friends, when they only had one. This way, they were able to see what that one friend posted because they were controlling all of the other accounts.
    5. I believe that personal conversations (such as email) should be private and not monitored by any other person or people (such as the government). I do believe that content that one decides to post in a public app that that person has chosen to download, such as Secret, should be monitored by the administrator of the app. I believe that the administrator should be able to remove users or suggestive/ damaging content that is posted.

    3. I believe all hackers are the same because they hall create a way to manipulate a site to show what could go wrong.
    4. To begin the hacking process Caudill created 50 dummy contacts and only used one real email account. He then used the accounts to see what the one persons secrets were and could tell where they were all coming from.
    5. In my opinion people such should be able to have at least a small percentage of what they post to be anonymous, but they should not put very personal things on the internet. I think that there should only be 25%nof what a person post to be traced. Online privacy is very important depending on the person and how public or private they make things.

    1. He was one of the hackers.
2.White hackers are able to find the identification of the anonymous secret users by using personal emails.
    3. All hackers are the same in my opinion. It's like saying what they are doing is simple as in a "white lie". A hacker is a hacker, just like a white lie is a white lie.
4 Secret is hacked by using personal emails and using dummy contacts and one victim as a cover up.
    5. There is a limit to posting things anonymously such as; ask, wiki, cooking recipes, etc. are appropriate, but as a website that you can post anything at all would not be such a smart idea because people can use anything against you.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a "white hacker" who hacked the app "Secret."
    2. "White hackers" consider themselves to be ethical hackers in that they point out flaws in online security systems so they can be fixed.
    3. I think there is such thing as a "white hacker" but it is still wrong to hack something like that.
    4. When the "white hackers" hacked Secret they pretty much set up fake accounts as their friends using other peoples phone numbers and since the app uses your address book to find friends and allows one to view friends' friends on the app the hackers were able to view random peoples secrets and know who they were.
    5. If a website says that one's post will be anonymous, then the post should be completely anonymous; however, if complete anonymity can not be achieved then users should be warned of it before posting. Online privacy is very important because people put very important information online and if that is hacked then it can ruin someone's life.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a hacker that hacked the app "Secret" using personal email addresses.

    2. White hackers are hackers who think they are the best at hacking and can get into anything.

    3. I think all hackers are the same but there are some more experienced than others and would like to be called white hacker to feel more superior and more important than others and can get there hands on anything they want.

    4. Secret was hacked by Benjamin Caudill by using personal email addresses and deleting real accounts and make fake accounts to make the app believe there are tons of people and they are all anonymous but there is one real person and that person is the only one anonymous.

    5. People should be able to post whatever they want anonymously or not because it is their choice and they have to remember that one day it might be seen by someone. Some should be monitored to make sure that people are anonymous if they want to be. People also should not rely on a website or computer because it can malfunction and everything be revealed and traced back by accident. Most people say online privacy is important because they do not want people to know everything about them or hunt them down but also they have to be careful what they say if they do not want anyone to know.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a "white-hat hacker".
    2. A "white hacker" is someone who helps people identify that the posts on Secret are not antonymous.
    3. In my opinion, I believe that hackers are not all the same because each group of hackers has their own specific kind of system and methods that they used to hacked. I also believe that there such a thing as a "white hacker" because without "white hacker" the society will be in trouble without knowing and figuring out who does what on their machines. Ex. Hackers are like polices because they help identify who committed a crime.
    4. On Secret, you will be able to see and comment on secrets posted by your friends and you can also share your secrets "all anonymously".
    5. I believe that people should be able to post as much as they want to any website anonymously but they should keep in mine that all the information that they posted are not monitored and that hackers can hacked into it and read it at any time. I also believe that online privacy is not important because if it was private, why would people put it online?

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a "white-hat hacker" who was able to find the names of anonymous posters on Secret.
    2. "White hackers" are hackers who consider themselves as ethical hackers.
    3. There is such a thing as a "white hacker" as there are people who use their programming skills to use for justified reasons, rather than trying to manipulate information on the internet.
    4. Dummy accounts were created to replace contacts on a subject. The application believes that the subject has a large group of friends to share secrets with, when in reality the only secrets being spread are the subject's.
    5. People should be able to post to websites without spreading any personal information without their consent. However, since content is already monitored/can be accessed by the government and hackers, no person should expect their information to be kept completely private. Online privacy is important for storing personal information such as names and credit card numbers for having an identity on social networking sites and making online purchases.

2.They consider themselves to be ethical hackers
    3. There is a "white hacker" if they are doing it for the good of the company and individual rather than to get the information and sell it as most hackers would.
    4. Real friends were replaced with dummy friends allowing the white hackers to see who was telling what secrets.
    5. People on the internet should be able to post what they would like, but there will always be a risk of it being hacked, stolen, read, and leaked. Content on the internet needs to be monitored because while people should have privacy, the information is going out to everyone in the world with internet not just the few people you would show your journal to. I do believe there should be a way to trace the information back to you because that information you put out there could be harmful or helpful and needs to be able to be traced back incase you need to take it off or get credit for your works. Online privacy is important but people should realize once you put it outside your head, it's the world's information.

    1. A "White Hat Hacker."
    2. Someone who utilizes their skill for ethical purposes.l
    3. Yes there is, if someone only utilizes that skill for the greater good and not for personal research.
    4. the hacker created 50 fake accounts to bombard the victim with and used the fake accounts as a shield to narrow down the vitims account and find his/her excact information.
    5. It is thempersons chice so there should be no limit on how much they can post. Yes, all content should be monitored on some basis but not just to be monitored, it should be so that nothing could be planned such as any kind of crime. An everyday privacy from neighbors or friends is needed but no one should be able to be 100% off the grid.

    1. Benjamin Caudill is a "white-hat hacker".
    2. A "white hacker" is someone who considers himself/herself an ethical hacker.
    3. I think that "whit hackers" are acceptable to an extent. Hacking can be used for the good, for example if someone is being anonymously cyber bullied, then it is ethical to hack that person; but, there are not many other cases in which hacking is ethical.
    4. The hackers created "dummy accounts" to serve as their contacts(which doesn't require email or phone number verification) and added real peoples emails to that list.
    5. The issue of online privacy could go either way. I do think that a person should be able to post just about anything anonymously because they might be afraid to let people know what they really think. I believe that only the government should be allowed access to users information and a warrant should be required to retrieve that information. the warrant should only be allowed if a user does post something threatening to a person or the country's safety.

    2. A white-hacker is also an ethical hacker.
    3. All hackers are the same because they are all trying to get into your information unknowingly.
4.They make fake contacts and then friend one real person and trick them into thinking they have real friends when actually all the secrets were just coming from them.
    5. I think people should be able to post as much as they want anonymously online. I also think that the internet should be monitored if it's only a public site and I think anonymous websites should also be monitored but not be easy enough for anyone to hack that's not under FBI authority. I think online privacy is significantly important because I think we all need privacy but if you do it on a public site, much privacy is not expected.

!) He is a white hacker.
    2) White hackers believe they are ethical because they hack for good.
    3) I think sometimes a hacker is doing the right thing by exposing information or other things people should know.
    4) a account is set up with a fake email and phone number and fake friends were made wit only one real friend who was the target, so any secret sent could only be from the target.
    5) online privacy is important, so things should not be constantly monitored. but there should be a way though to find old post or things like that in the case of a crime or something of that nature.

    2. A white hacker is a hacker just like the rest, except they think they are ethical hackers.
    3. I believe that all hackers are the same because they are doing the same thing.
    4. Secret was hacked by people deleting all their contacts, making an account with a fake email, and then adding friends by their real email addresses.
    5. Everything on the internet that is posted anonymously should be monitored, there is a lot on the internet that should not be. People put things on the internet because they trust that they are secured, so online privacy is very important.

    2. Those who consider themselves an ethical hacker.
    3. Sometimes. If they are hacking into something for a greater purpose then yes. If they are hacking into something just to hurt someone or to find things out about people then no.
    4. They deleted their contacts and created 50 fake friends on their phones and had one real friend in their contacts so that they would see only their posts on Secret.
    5. In my opinion online privacy should be given, I don't want things is say to someone online to be seen by the world. The only time I believe someone should step in and say something is when it becomes cyberbullying. I do not believe that all things should be monitored if they tell you that you will have your privacy to say and do whatever you want to do then you should have that and it shouldn't be monitored. We live in a free country where we have rights and I believe we should have privacy online.

    4. They made fake accounts with unknown numbers and by doing so gained private information of their "friends."
    5. As much as one wants. Content should be monitored but not be able to be traced back to the person. Online privacy is extremely important.
