3.The first use of weather as an instrument of war.
4.Releasing multiple volcanic eruptions at one time, assembling a giant glass sunshade in space then firing it into orbit, dropping iron filings into the ocean, building structures around the world that absorb CO2,planting real trees and painting all houses roofs' white.
    5. I think it's fine that scientists are trying to help the world. It may not be by natural causes but if it helps the world at all, then I say go for it. ~Jordan Chestnut

  2. 1. Planet hacking is using technology to change the planets climate . 2. Spice is short for stratospheric particle injection for climate engineering team. 3. Operation Popeye was the first use of weather as an instrument of war. 4.sending a giant sunshade into space to reflect the sun; causing artificial volcanoes to erupt; spraying sulfate into the stratosphere; dissolving mountains and putting whats left in the sea; and filling the ocean with iron filings to make algae grow. 5 . I don't agree at all that scientists should do these experiments. I honestly don't know, but there is a point where it needs to stop and allow the natural course of things.

  3. Planet hacking is the use of geoengineering. "Spice" is the government group in charge of the geoengineering project. Spice stands for Stratosperic Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. Between 1967-1972 "Operation Popeye" was carried out by the U.S. Airforce. "Operation Popeye" became the first use of "weather warfare", which was later outlawed in 1977 by Enmod. There are 5 main ideas of geoengineering so far. (1) Stratospheric Aerosols: pumping huge amounts of sulphate into the stratosphere which could drastically change weather patterns and has a practicality of 5/10. (2) Space Reflectors: a giant sun-shade launched into space; could be shattered by space debris with a prac. of 4/10. (3) Ocean Fertilisation: dropping iron fillings into sea to generate blooms of carbon generating plankton; takes to long for little effect with a prac. of 2/10. (4) Artificial Trees: extracts CO2 from the air; high cost of minimum of $600 a pound of CO2 removed with a prac. of 6/10. (5) Afforestation: planting real trees, painting roofs of houses white, & covering bits of desert with reflective material; these alone would'nt be able to avert the worst of climate change with a prac. of 1/10. Personally if it isnt causing harm to humans, animals, & plant then it would be a greatly needed change for the world. The artificial trees might be expensive, but they are effective in what they do. If the whole world chipped in we could gretly improve the future generation's lives.

Plant hacking is geoengineering according to the Royal Society. Spice is a
balloon that was shipped back to its owners. The spice team is the Particle
Injection for Climate Engineering. Stratospheric Aerosols the fastest way but
also the most riskiest way to fix to global warning. Space Reflectors is said to
have a reduction but the maintenance is high. Ocean Fertilisation takes a
considerable long time and can effect the marine life in negative ways.
Artificial Treese could ass muscle to natures blueprints but the cost is very
high. Afforestation you get to plant real Treese but can not take the rough
climate changes. I do not think that it is fair for scientist to experiment like
this. They should be able to go as far but draw the line at causing permeant
damage. I think the title is an example of propaganda. It states god then goes on
to say a science experiment which those two clearly don't come belong together.
The title also says it might save global warning or completely destroy it.

  5. Geoengineering is the large scale technological manipulation oh the climate, also known as "Planet Hacking". Since "Operation Popeye" the first use of weather in warfare the Stratossperic Particle Injection for Climate Engineering(Spice) is working on a safe way to reduce the rising climate problem. So far they have come up with five ways we could reduce this rising threat. The first is Stratospheric Aerosols is is based off of reflecting some of the suns rays back at hte sun, though this is the quickest way it is the riskest. The second way is Space Reflectors it would be assembling a giant glass sunshade and firing it into orbit the practibility is ony 4/10. The third choice is called Ocean Fertilization we would be dropping iron filings into the ocean this would also cause many fish to die. The next would be to build artifcial trees costing six hundred dollars a tree and we already have technology that can do this for us. The last is Afforestation which is planting real trees but this would not cause fast enough results. In my opinion we should not take the chance that things could only get worse.

    1. Gioengineering or changing the planets climate

    2. Stratospheric particle injection for climate engineering

    3. The first use of weather as a weapon

    4. All five method involve either reflecting some of the sunlight or removing co2 from the air

    5. Yes but it should be protected because it could be turned around and used as a weapon

  7. Plant hacking is the large-scale, technological manipulation of the climate. Spice is the Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. Operation Popeye was when the U.S. air force were first use of weather as an instrument of war. All 5 geoengineering projects all have to deal with the world not polluting as bad. They also have to deal with using the real things for their right purpose. I do think it is okay for scientists to use these expirements because they are trying to make things better.

  8. Noah Barnette- Planet hacking is scientists preforming experiments to see if they can change the climate called geoengineering. Spice stands for Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. Operation Popeye was when the U.S. air force released silver iodide particles in the air during the Vietnam War. This was the first time weather was used as weapon. Using Stratospheric Aerosols is when you release huge amounts of sulphate particles into the atmosphere. These particles could block heat from getting to earth. Using space reflectors reflect the sun's rays to cool off earth. Dropping iron fillings in the ocean is used so plankton can absorb CO2. Artificial trees can remove CO2 from the air. Planting more real trees can remove CO2 from the air also. Yes, scientists should research ways to protect the earth but should know what the consequences will be.

  9. Planet hacking is is the large scale, technological manipulation of the climate. Spice stands for Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. It is a United Kingdom government funded geoengineering research project that aims to assess the feasibility of injecting particles into the stratosphere from a tethered balloon for the purposes of solar radiation management. Spice works with the united kindom government. 5 geoengineering are 1. STRATOSPHERIC AEROSOLS- Heat could be stopped from reaching the Earth's atmosphere by reflecting some of the sun's rays back into space. 2. SPACE REFLECTORS- Assembling a giant glass sunshade in space then firing it into orbit could reflect a small proportion of the sun's rays. 3. OCEAN FERTILISATION- Dropping iron filings into the ocean can generate blooms of carbon-absorbing plankton. 4. ARTIFICIAL TREES- machinery that can extract 1,000 times more CO2 a day from the atmosphere than a natural tree. 5. AFFORESTATION- Planting real trees has the aesthetic advantage of creating forests, and would satisfy those who believe that "engineering" the climate is madness. Painting the roofs of houses white or covering tranches of desert in reflective material could also bounce back unwanted radiation. I think it isok for them to do these experiments becausethey do seem like they would help of world in the future. The title sounds like...these scientists are trying to play gods role by doing these experiments. I think this propaganda.

  10. Planet hacking is the large-scale, technological manipulation of the climate. SPICE is the Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering; a Cambridge group was going to conduct a geoengineering experiment. Operation Popeye was carried out by the US air force. Planes seeded clouds with silver iodide particles, causing storms and extending the monsoon season. I t was the first time that geoengineering was used as a weapon. Stratospheric aerosols could stop some heat from ever getting into the atmosphere by reflecting the sun’s rays back into space but global weather patterns could be drastically affected. Space reflectors could be put into orbit around earth and block some of the sun’s rays from reaching the earth but it would be almost as impractical as launching a giant pair of sunglasses into space(oh wait, it is) and it would be susceptible to being smashed to smithereens by asteroids and other space debris. Ocean fertilization involves dumping iron into the ocean to encourage the growth of plankton bloom to absorb carbon dioxide and bring it to the bottom of the ocean with it when it dies but some phytoplankton create toxins that are harmful(in 2004, 152 dolphins died from a toxin most likely coming from a microorganism associated with a plankton bloom. Also the organisms that feed on the plankton and on their remains when they die remove oxygen from the water resulting in the suffocation of fish. The lead dumped in the water would also raise the Ph of the water in the ocean which is currently a base but might not be any more if some idiot dumps tons of iron into the ocean. Artificial trees can absorb up to 1000 times more CO2 than real trees but they are also very expensive. Afforestation, planting real trees has the aesthetic advantage of creating forests, and would satisfy those who believe that "engineering" the climate is bad. Painting the roofs of houses white or covering tranches of desert in reflective material could also bounce back unwanted heat. I believe that it is okay for scientists to carry out these experiments as long as they are cautious and do not attempt any large experiments without international approval.

    - Plant Hacking is Climate engineering, an application of geoengineering, is the deliberate and large-scale intervention in the Earth’s climatic system with the aim of reducing global warming. Climate engineering has two categories of technologies- carbon dioxide removal and solar radiation management. Spice is also know as Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. Operation Popeye was the first use of weather as an instrument of war. Almost 3,000 flights were sent into the skies above the Ho Chi Minh Trail, where planes seeded clouds with silver iodide particles, causing storms and extending the monsoon season. Heat could be stopped from reaching the Earth's atmosphere by reflecting some of the sun's rays back into space. Though this would be among the fastest fixes to global warming, it is also among the riskiest. Global weather patterns could be drastically affected. Assembling a giant glass sunshade in space then firing it into orbit could reflect a small proportion of the sun's rays, according to astronomer Roger Angel. He claims a reduction of just 2 per cent in sunlight reaching the Earth could make warming more manageable. Assembling a giant glass sunshade in space then firing it into orbit could reflect a small proportion of the sun's rays, according to astronomer Roger Angel. He claims a reduction of just 2 per cent in sunlight reaching the Earth could make warming more manageable. Klaus Lackner of the Columbia University Earth Institute has developed machinery that can extract 1,000 times more CO2 a day from the atmosphere than a natural tree. High cost: direct air-capture measures like this would cost a minimum of $600 per tonne of CO2 removed. Painting the roofs of houses white or covering tranches of desert in reflective material could also bounce back unwanted radiation. Geoengineers argue that man is already engineering the climate with pollution from fossil fuels. Also, these methods alone would not be enough to avert the worst of climate change. I don't think that they should do this because they're destroying earth and its natural wonders, they should leave everything how is.

Planet hacking is Geoengineering, large scaled technological manipulation of the climate. Spice is the Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. The "Operation Popeye" was the first use of weather as an instrument of war. The five geoenigineering would be, Stratospheric Aerosols, which stop heat from reaching earths surface, Space Reflectors, reduces sunlight hitting earths surface, Ocean Fertilisation, takes away co2 from water, Artificial Trees, takes away co2 from tree, and Afforestations, planting trees . I think they should their best to protect humanity.

  13. Planet hacking is the large scale altering how an areas climate. The team of scientist and engineers working on the project, known as spice, Though there are some limitations set by fear of irreversible effects it could possibly have on the enviroment. These project are similer to those of "Project Popeye" were the US military dumped silver iodide particles into the atmospere, extending monsoon season. I feel that it is ok for groups to do this as long as it is regulated and controlled so we do not injure our earth more than we already do.

Planet hacking is when humans make fake land or things that the earth creates itself. Spice is the Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering team. Operation Popeye was to be the first use of weather as an instrument of war. Stratospheric Aerosols is where they would reflect some of the suns rays back into space to stop the heat. But if they did this it could drastically affect the weather. Space Reflectors is where they could make warming more manageble by putting a giant glass sunshade in space then firing it into orbut. If they do this "glass discs would be vulnerable to space debris, and maintenance of a "space umbrella" requires time, expertise and money." Ocean Fertilization is where they would drop iron fillings into the ocean to creat some carbondioxide plankton things. Doing this could really badly effect marine life. Artificial trees is where they would make fake trees that could produce 1000x more CO2 than natural trees. This would be very expensive. Afforistaion is just planting real trees. I dont think they need to do any of this because of the side effects that could happen.

  16. Planet hacking is a technological manipulation of the climate. Spice is Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. The US Air Force tried to use weather as a war weapon ad it's called "Operation Popeye". Stratospheric Aerosols is trying to reflect the suns rays back into space and to stop some heat from reaching the Earth. Space Reflectors are giant glass sunshade to reflect a small portion of the sun. Ocean Fertilization is to have plankton absorbing carbon. Artificial Trees are made to add muscle to nature's blueprint. Afforestation is painting house roofs white to reflect unwanted radiation. No, scientists could just help by keeping the planet clean and green. Putting science gadgets could harm it all and the people.

  17. Planet Hacking is the large scale manipulation of the climate. Spice is the Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Control. The U.S. Air Force was trying to use weather as a weapon in war calling it operation Popeye. They are trying to use the stratospheric aerosols to reflect the suns rays and keep some heat from the Earth. Using space reflectors to reflect a small portion of the sun. They use ocean fertilization to get plankton to absorb carbon. And artificial trees are made to muscle natures blueprints. They paint houses roofs to reflect unwanted radiation. Scientists can be helping keep the planet green and clean. But putting science things all over the place isn't helping anyone.

Planet hacking is geoenguneering, which is a large scale manipulation of climate. Spice stands for Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering. Operation Popeye was the U.S. Air force using weather as a war weapon between 1967 and 1972. Stratospheric Aerosols blocks heat from the Earth by reflecting sun rays back into space and volcanic eruptions have made cooling periods of time. Space reflectors is a giant glass in space that reduces the sun's rays that come into the earth's atmosphere. Ocean Fertilization is when someone puts iron filling in the ocean and it eventually creates carbon sinks, which dead plankton bring carbon to the ocean surface. Artificial trees would make 1000 times more CO2 than a natural tree and the would plant them. Afforestation is just having natural or real trees and it makes forests. I think it is only okay for scientist to do these types of experiments if there is very little risk for living things and the earth.
