    1. The RAISE Act was created to monitor the performance and student achievement of teachers and give incentives based on those stats.
    2. Teaching cannot be compared to working in a factory because students are not the same like shirts; they are all different and cannot all measure up in a way that would benefit the teacher, even if it is the best teacher in the world.
    3. He used the shirt factory example to illustrate his view that schools cannot be treated like businesses. Thus, he is using logos and exemplification in order to prove that this act will not improve schooling and to enable a greater understanding of why it won't work.
    4. Lee lives in Montgomery.
    5. The one reason teachers gave for why their own efforts would not lead to student gains is that the family environment has a great influence on students, one that a teacher can do little to prevent.
    6. I do not believe that it would improve the educational system for various reasons: 1.) Our tax money would be taken further away from actual academics, limiting the resources available to students and causing academics to continue its decline. 2.) Teachers would no longer be teaching us to be prepared for the world, giving us the things that are vital to living a successful life ( which has already begun; look at home economics and budgeting classes). Instead, they would be teaching toward one test that, in reality, has very little to do with our futures. 3.) It would be very unfair to the teachers who are stuck with the children who have "I don't care" attitudes; that could be the best teacher, but she is not getting what she deserves for practically donating her life to those kids. 4.) Teachers are able to cheat this system.
    7. The educational system would improve monstrously if real discipline is instituted in schools again, if students are able to have a recess/free time every day in which they can recharge, if focus is taken away from futile things such as sports and put into real life demands such as cooking, and if tenure is removed, giving teachers a "real incentive" to do their job correctly.

    1. Summarize the RAISE Act of 2016 (will require some independent research). Basically the RAISE Act is aimed at failing schools to give teachers the incentive to produce better students.
    2. According to Lee, why can't teaching be compared to working in a shirt factory? Working in a shirt factory you are working with the same thing all the time. While each individual student in a classroom is completely different.
    3. Rhetorically, why would he use the shirt factory example? Because in a t-shirt everything is the same. A classroom is an unpredictable environment.
    4. In what city does Lee live? Montgomery, Alabama
    5. What one reason did teachers in the cited study give for why their personal efforts would not lead to student achievement gains? It would not make family life better for the student.
    6. In your opinion, would offering teachers incentive for test scores improve the educational system? Why or why not? I am not against teachers getting extra money but I feel these incentives will not work that good because you can always change a students grade in the computer and with as much as $15k at stake a situation like that would be inevitable.
    7. What would improve the educational system? The educational system really relies on the student and their family. For example, if home life is not the best you may not get the best results. Therefore, it takes a good base as well as a good teacher to make the educational system better.

The RAISE Act of 2016 is going to give 3.8% Federal Pay rise in 2016. Teaching can not be compare to working in a shirt factory because no two students are the same. He would use the shirt factory to show that it is difficult to teach different students who learn differently. Lee lives in Montgomery. Teachers did not think their program was motivating. Offering incentives for test scores would not be helpful because some students choose to not do well or study and the students grade reflects their work, not the teachers. I believe a variety of teaching techniques that could help a variety of individuals to learn would be helpful and teacher incentives based on the teachers hard work and efforts not what the students do.

    1. The RAISE act of 2016 will amend the National Labor relations act to declare its prohibition against interference by an employer with employees right to bargain collectively, it shall prohibit the employer from paying an employee higher wages than the agreement allows for.
    2. Lee says teaching can not be compared to working in a shirt factory because schools can not be run like a business.
    3. Lee uses the shirt factory example because its very different from how teaching works. In a shirt factory everyone works on their own making their own amount of shirts. Teachers must work together to achieve their goals.
    4. Lee lives in Montgomery, Alabama.
    5. Teachers said that concerns for family influence and students environment are more influential in a students life than whatever their own personal measures may be.
    6. Offering teachers money for improving test scores would not improve the educational system because these people are not in the business to make money. These teachers should already be striving to get the best scores possible, not for their own personal gain but for their students.
    7. Every year we are tasked with this question, and while many suggestions are made, year after year the system does not change, or it gets worse. I believe to improve the educational system we have to collectively as a nation start to get our morals back on track. our schools are trying to teach children morals and give them an education. It should be the guardians job, (whoever and however that family structure is) is employ these morals to their children, because if a school is trying to teach students how to tie their shoes or how to say yes ma'am and no sir, then they are not giving their full attention to a students education, which is what school is for.

Basically the act says that an employer can pay higher wages or some other form of payment than what is on the employee’s contract. Teaching cannot be compared to a shirtwaist factory because unlike how all of the shirts are the same, all students are not the same. He uses this example to appeal to logos.
Lee lives in Montgomery. Teachers did not think their personal efforts would lead to higher student achievement because of the environment at home. This would not improve anything because if education is not a priority at home, the students do not care what they achieve. For the education system to work better, every student must be motivated to work hard and study.

    1. The Rewarding Advancement in Instruction and Student Excellence (RAISE) is would add compensation system for teachers where they could earn more money in exchange for giving up tenure.
    2. Teachers can’t be compared to working in a shirt factory is because, if you offer them a raise they cannot “magically” become better at teaching. The article is trying to compare shirt making to teaching with piece work, when teaching isn’t that.
    3. He used the shirt factory example because making shirts is a business that makes a profit. While in teaching you get a profit of educating students, it still is not a business which the author of the article is trying to prove.
    4. The author, Lee, lives in Montgomery.
    5. Teachers were concerned that student’s environment would not help improve their learning experience.
    6. After conducting an “experiment” with Abby Ingle at Englewood, they believe that offering incentives to improve test scores would not help. As stated by a fifth grader, “…because giving them money or candy (oh kids) doesn’t help them teach better.” And I agree with the student. If the teacher really loved teaching, they would find a way to connect with students to help their grades. (like you)
    7. As asked by the fifth graders on what would improve the education system, they said: better food, cleaner schools, better heating and cooling, sodas, nap time, teachers need to chill out, and teachers need to stop having an attitude. While I agree with them, the system really needs to have teachers that actually care about the students and teaching. Grades, including mine, have improved in the past by connecting to and having a teacher that put an effort into teaching.

1.The RAISE Act gives teachers a pay increase, however, they have to give up certain benefits included in tenure to get the raise.
2.Lee is saying that there is a lot more to teaching than other jobs, it's not piecework.
3.He used that example to show that schools are not businesses, like this act is trying to make them work like one.
    4.Montgomery
5.The teachers were concerned that student's home life would influence them.
    6. Ava and I asked the 4th and 5th graderes at Englewood extended day, and most of them said that if they knew they would get rewarded, they would improve their grades, and I completely agree with them. Kids, especially the age group that we "experimented" on, want recognition for their hard work. Without that recognition, or a reward of some kind (they mentioned candy), they have no motivation to improve.
    7. Despite "nap time" being a popular answer among the 4th and 5th graders, I think that teachers who are passionate about their jobs are more effective. I tend to pay more attention when a teacher is very positive, and is enthusiastic about the subject they teach.

    1. The RAISE Act seeks to reward achievement and incentivize successful employees and allows the employers and employees to bargain as a collective and prevents any other raise in wages if it has nothing to do with the legislation.

    2. Teaching cannot be compared to working in a shirt factory because teaching involves having to deal with individualism, whereas, working in shirt factories is monotonous.

    3. Lee used the shirt factory as an example to show that every student is homologous to one another and that teaching is much more difficult than it seems because everyone does not possess the same strengths or weaknesses.

    4. Lee lives in the city of Montgomery.

    5. The one reason for teachers to not believe that their personal efforts would lead students to be better is because of the concerns about the family environment on student achievement.

    6. I do not believe incentives will work to improve the educational system simply because it depends on how the teacher is teaching it and how the teacher will go out of his way to acquire the wages. This, however, could very possibly put more stress on the students because they may face large workloads that they may not have been prepared for.

    7. I believe that teaching children at an early age that education is essential to living a successful life will improve the educational system for future generations.

    1. RAISE stands for Reforming Access for Investments in Startup Enterprises. It provides incentives for progress.
    2. Because, unlike products in a shirt factory, no two students are the same.
    3. Because the BEA spoke of the RAISE act by comparing failing schools to markets providing customers service.
    4. He lives in Montgomery.
    5. One reason is because of concerns about the influence of family environment on student achievement.
    6. I doubt it. Sometimes a student makes good grades on worksheets, but struggles with test taking. Sometimes a teacher is very dedicated to their work and tries to help the students as much as they can and some students still refuse to put in the required effort. A teacher's actions can not always change every student's actions.
    7. Many things. The education system could stop passing children on through grades who truly do not understand the work because they don't want to deal with them anymore. Kids need to learn at their own pace. Also, do most schools even have psychologists or psychologically trained counselors? And back to some kids not testing well, tests count for most of our overall grades. Some kids, no matter how much effort is put into their worksheets and homework, don't do well on tests and it results in low grades. Also, sports teams get so much money. I understand that they entertain and bring money to the schools, but art departments are usually just ignored. There ARE teachers out there who do NOT teach. Though many teachers don't want to hear it, many of your peers don't teach! I've sat in multiple classes where I've listened to the teacher complain about teaching, complain about their students, and just sit there complaining. You can't just put notes on the board and sit down and let students copy them down and expect them to get it, sorry. Girl dress code also sucks, because the dress code for guys is basically just that they can't come naked. School systems focus too much on dress code instead of education. I really don't care about that girl's shoulder- she shouldn't have to leave her classroom to call a parent, from work, to bring her a jacket to school while she misses a test in her classroom over something like that. Lastly, grades are not everything. I completely understand wanting a child to make good grades, but no one should ignore the other characteristics and talents that child has.

    1) Rewarding Achievement and Incentivizing Successful Employees Act is what the RAISE Act stands for. It is where teachers will get offered bonuses for their students doing good.

    2) He says that, "students are not customers and teachers are not robots." Every teacher and student are different so they all have to be taught differently.

    3) In a shirt factory everything is made the same way and there are steps to take to get things finished and is ran in a business like manner.

    4) He lives in Montgomery

    5) The teachers said that their family environment might have an effect on their education and that not just their teaching could help them no matter what they did.

    6) No, I do not believe that it would help because the teacher could try to do their best but the student has to also buy into the program and try their best too. The student has to be there wanting to learn.

    7) The education system would improve if the teachers and staff of a school got together and came up with something that got the students involved and they were able to have fun while doing it. So if they are living in a harsh family environment they could escape through school.

    1. Rewarding Achievement and Incentivizing Successful Employees- amends the National Labor Relations act ;prohibit an employer from paying an employee higher wages, pay, or other compensation than the agreement provides for.
    2. Teachers don't experience children/students who are exactly the same like applying the same collar to the same shirt
    3. To express the differences between business supplies and the educational supplies(children)
    4. Montgomery
    5. Concerns about the influence of a family environment on student achievement
    6. I think teachers should receive incentive for grades. If a student does poorly on the test, it's not the teachers fault, because some teachers deal with irritating and unwilling to learn students, although if the entire class has unacceptable grades the teachers should not receive incentive due to the lack of teaching the students received
    7. Better school environment like the desks and the temperature, but also improving other ways to study and fixing the issue of a teacher has a bad attitude towards the students.

1.Amends the prohibition of an employer to pay employees more money than an agreement provides for.
    2. It cannot be compared to working in a shirt factory because every basic part of a shirt is the same, in teaching every student is different.
3.He uses the shirt factory as a personal example of how teaching and working in a shirt factory is different, as his relative used to work in one.
    4.Montgomery, AL
    5.The student's family environment.
    6. No, offering teachers this incentive would make matters in the school system worse. I've had teachers in the past that make their class undeniably easy. These teachers give out many effort grades and short easy "quizzes" so all of their students will make good grades and they barely have to do anything. This would incentivize more teachers to do this so they can make more money.
    7. An overall raise in the pay of teachers and more emphasis on the separation of lack luster students from superior students in advanced and AP classes.

    1. raise stands for rewarding advancement in instruction and student excellence which not only allows teacher bonuses for passing students but also waiting longer to give teachers tenure.
    2. because in a shirt factory each piece is cut perfectly for assembly unlike students being taught by a teacher
    3. because the shirt factory is using perfectly cut parts.
    4. Montgomery Alabama
    5. because they were worried about the family environment of the student
6.no, if teachers knew that raising test scores would earn them a bonus then they might be more lenient to give students the answer or have more tests on simpler things instead of actually teaching because they need or they just want the money.
    7. the educational system could be improved in many ways, standardized tests should not have such an emphasis because many students are not good with tests while some do best in tests, each student is different and a standard test would not show their true abilities. another way to improve the educational system would be to allow more hands on skill building courses for those of us who would rather go into the arts or a skill related job instead of a job based on intelligence.

    3. Because shirt factory's are typically not good places.
    4. Montgomery
    5. Because if you look at recent studies there are no increases in scores when teachers are paid more.
    6. No because of two reasons. The first being that there is no evidence to support that claim (there is actually evidence that is against that). The second being that students do better in the school when the teachers actually care for the students and want them to learn (Mr Ray for example).
    7. The school system would be improved if we required more schooling for teachers and increased the overall spending on schools. We simply need better people as our teachers and in order to get people who love the students, we must create an environment that does not make teaching an extremely difficult job(like having to deal with a lot of disciplinary problems).

    1. The RAISE Act of 2016 is a program that believes in bribing teachers and thinking that money is everything.
    2. Teaching cant be compared to working in a shirt factory because when in a shirt factory, each thing that comes through is the same product. When in a classroom, each student is different.
    3. He used the shirt factory example because he knew about it and mostly everyone could relate to it.
    4. Lee lives in Montgomery, AL.
    5. The one reason teachers gave for the reason of students not having achievement gains was the family environment of the kids.
    6. I think it could in some cases and couldn't in some. It could improve the educational systems because it would make the lazy teachers, who actually don't like teaching, try harder. It could not work because it doesn't include the kids, it only advantages the teacher so it probably wouldn't make the student try any harder.

    7) I think that in order to improve our educational system students need to be challenged and motivated, but in a positive way.

  20. Tried to post my blog response twice and when i hit publish the box was cleared out BOTH TIMES. So her are my answers for the blog which by now i have the questions and answers memorized.

1.The RAISE act is an act that is willing to provide teachers with a bonus if their students scores go up.
    2. Because not every student is the same or can be handle the same way the last was.
    3. Teachers are given a set amount of time to educate and affect a students life, and who knows how many different types of students all of which need to be educated. If these students aren’t reached whether it is their own fault or the teachers, then it could affect how successful they are in their future endeavors. In the shirt factory they are also only given so much time to make sure all of their many products have all been taken care of and made as useful as possible, if a few are skipped over then that will affect how successful those few are.
    4. Montgomery
    5. They have no control on how he students outside lives affect their grades.
    6. Teachers are under paid already and taken for granted. Obviously not all teachers are motivated to come in with a positive attitude ready to teach a bunch of brats who would rather be anywhere but school. I think a good bit of responsibility lies on the teacher to prepare their students for test, but you have to consider the few students who even after relentlessly teaching still don’t grasp it. Say a teacher does everything in their power to make sure i am prepared for a test and i still don’t grasp the concept or just don’t try, should the teacher be held responsible for that? is it fair to keep them from a bonus due to the lack of concern or just lack of intelligence of their students? I think teachers pay should be raised to for doing the job they do, i don’t think we should let the teachers bonus or lack there of rely solely on rather there students do well or not.
    7. I think that we not only need self motivated teachers that love what they do but also programs that help kids beyond giving extra notes or extra practice. We have to consider the students that learn differently. Personally I am less likely to learn from a stack a pre-copied notes and more likely to learn from more fun and hands own lessons such as our in class debates. Sometimes its difficult to offer this in class due to the time it takes and the rowdiness of students so i think we should create a program that is more than just tutoring but lessons that are fun activities or hands on lessons that could possibly be a more successful way of teaching some students.

On Jan 1 2016 it goes from 7.25 mim wage to 8. And then the next month it's 8 and so on until it's 10. Then it would raise annually.
    2. According to Lee, why can't teaching be compared to working in a shirt factory? Students are not customers and teachers aren't robots. Not all students are alike unlike the collars in the shirt.
    3. Rhetorically, why would he use the shirt factory example? Because it worked. And because it would play on uniqueness.

    5. What one reason did teachers in the cited study give for why their personal efforts would not lead to student achievement gains? Family environment
    6. In your opinion, would offering teachers incentive for test scores improve the educational system?  Why or why not? No because they could just help them cheat and if a teacher is in it for the money they are in the wrong profession.
    7. What would improve the educational system? If a personality test was given and students learned with those similar to them so they would feel comfortable. And a teacher with the same mindset.

    1) The Raise act of 2016 raised minimum wage to eight dollars an hour.

  26. 1. The RAISE Act is supposed to be an incentive in the form of a bonus to a teacher's paycheck that, in theory, will cause teachers to work harder to get their students on a passing level.
    2. When you are trying to put a collar on a shirt, the collar doesn't change because it's always the same collar. But, students are not collars. Each and every one of them is completely different. In other words, you have to change how u apply your teaching depending on your students.

    6. Money isn't the answer to improving education, and it never will be. Both the student and the teacher have to give an effort for learning to ensue.
    7. Education systems need to be more selective about who they choose to be a teacher. Teachers don't need to be chosen just based on their credentials or expertise. Teachers need to be passionate about their job. Teachers need to be able to connect with a student on more than just the basic teacher-student relationship. Passion for a job is a key factor in whether or not someone will do their best.

    2. Lee believes that students are not consumers and that this act has and will never work.

    6. In my opinion, I do not believe that offering teachers incentives for test scores will improve the educational system because that would only make teachers teach better not help students learn better.
    7. Asking students their opinion on the way things are done would be a start to see what teachers could do to better the students. Also by hiring teachers who care for their students grades.

    1. The Raise Act of 2016 basically says they will raise the amount of money you make if your work ethic changes for the better. Taking a teacher for example if their students come out more successful by the end of the year. Their salary will increase.
    2. According to Lee he states that a shirt is all made the same no matter what they should all come out the same but with children you have different mind sets so the outcome of each child will not be the same.
    3. At a shirt factory everything has the same material and all is shaped the same way to make the same outcome but it's totally different in a school environment.
    4.Montgomery
5.Teachers did not think their plans were motivating.
    6. No, at the end of the day a teacher can only teach they can't force a child to do the work. They can only encourage and do their job if the student doesn't want to receive the knowledge that is the child.
    7. Everything starts at home so if a parent doesn't care about their child's education then depending on the child's mindset by the time they have reached their junior or senior year they will more than likely drop out.

    1. The Raise Act of 2016 is where teachers will get bonuses if their students get better grades. Its like they are trying to run schools like a business.
    2. Because schools should not have to compete just to get the education they need. Students are not customers and the teachers should not be treated like they are robots.

    1. The RAISE Act of 2016 offers incentives to teachers. These incentives are offered to encourage teachers to teach students "better". The Act's purpose is to hopefully raise test scores.
    2. Teaching cannot be compared to working in a shirt factory because unlike students, every shirt is made the same. All students are different, and there is no routine process for teaching a student.
    3. Lee has personal experience with the shirt factory because a family member worked there.
    4. Montgomery
    5. Teachers said family environments also had an impact on student achievements.
    6. No, it would not improve the education system because studies have been conducted where offered incentives did not improve the education system.
    7. Teachers who have grit (passion) should be hired. Coaches to sports teams should not be hired just so they can coach sports more. I also think that we should have less standardized tests and homework, and maybe we as a country should look at other countries successful education systems.

  33. 1. The RAISE Act of 2016 is a bill that would affect teachers in Alabama in a detrimental fashion. The Act would raise a teachers tenure from three years to five years, would tie student’s achievements and grades to teachers overall evaluations, and it would create a performance pay schedule for the teachers who opt in to the system.

    2. According to Lee, teaching can’t be compared to working in a shirt factory because teaching is not a “business” like a shirt factory and should not be treated as one.

    3. Lee uses the shirt factory example to establish a sense of ethos among the audience to reassert that the two jobs should not be treated in the same manner.

    4. Lee lives in Montgomery, Alabama.

    5. Teachers did not find the program motivating or that their personal efforts would affect the student’s grades due to the impact that the family environment has on students.

    6. I don’t believe offering incentives to teachers will make much of a difference if any in the educational system. I believe that most teachers already work as hard as they can to help students keep up good grades. If they were not already passionate about teaching and the subject they teach, why else become a teacher?

    7. I believe that a longer school year, maybe a year round school year would help the educational system. Over summer break, there’s no denying that students forget a good bit of information that they’ve learned in the past school year. With a year round system, students are constantly working and not really given the opportunity to forget material. I believe that a nine week on- four or five week off schedule could drastically improve test grades and the system in general.

    1. The RAISE act of 2016 does mainly four things; tie student achievement to teacher evaluation, make it five years to attain tenure, ratings and effectiveness come first when making staff changes, and offer additional pay for teachers whose students perform better.
    2. because in a shirt factory everything is the same, but with teaching all students are different.
    3. He would use the shirt factory rhetorically because an assembly line and teaching are opposite. It creates a strong juxtaposition.

    5. They said that they were concerned about the influence of the family environment on a students achievement.
    6. No, because teachers usually don't teach for money. Also, no matter what a teacher does it is up to the students if they want to improve their own graves.
    7. I think that putting less emphasis on extracurricular activities and leave that for our side of school. School should be about education and helping students getting ready for the real world. Also, no student is the same, so they shouldn't be treated the same. Some people are better at engineering and hands on things, while others are better at tests.

    7. For schools main focus to be on education, and making kids grow into successful adults. Not worrying about money, or child behavior. Nowadays all kids, parents, teachers, and administration worry about is rules, the people who don't follow rules, and how to punish them. Education has always came 2nd to that.

  36. 1. Act that offers raises/incentives to teachers and/or educators that has students that are showing high test scores in class.

    4. Montgomery, Alabama

5 Teachers worry that their personal efforts could be overrode or looked over by a family environment the student goes home to.

    6. In my personal opinion, no, offering incentives or bonuses to teachers for high test scores is a petty and unreasonable method of attempt to fix our broken educational system. Teachers do more than just teach to make money teaching comes with a need and want to educate and a readiness for the emotional attachment to that. Offering bonuses won't help the teacher or the student because money doesn't make grades or brains.

7 A better understanding of the student and what that student is weak in and why they're weak in it whether it be due to a home life or a learning defect. Not all students can catch on as easily and when bad grades are given as a result of that it can be discouraging to the student doing their best.

    1) The RAISE Act of 2016 using Value Added Modeling(VAM)to project performance levels of students and pay teachers based on whether or not their students meet the targets given.
    2) Teaching can not be compared to like working in a shirt factory because a factory deals with every part being exactly the same, in just about every way. However, people do not come exactly the same, everyone is unique and learns a different way, so they ca not all be handled and taught the same exact way.
    3) Lee would use this as an example to prove his point that slumping them all together to reach the same target and use the same incentive is not how the learning and teaching process works at all.
    4) Lee lives in Montgomery, Alabama.
    5) In the study, teachers believe that their personal efforts will not always lead to the student's achievement gains due to the fact that the student's home and family influence could be entirely different and influence the kid a different way, and ultimately you spend more time at home and with your family than at school, so it would have a greater effect on the student than just a single teacher for one year.
    6) Offering the teachers incentives for improving test scores might improve some teachers to improve their teaching styles but I do not believe that it would change the whole education system. The teachers can only do so much to improve scores, the students also have to put in the effort and some just don't posses the motivation to do as best they can on tests. The students play a large variable in the test scores, the teachers can not force them to do anything if they do not wish to or put in the effort.
    7) The educational system would be improved if the emphasis was put on learning, not testing and passing. It is good to know where students are and that they are learning the material, I am not saying to get rid of tests, but simply to stop putting so much pressure on passing to move on in life. Today's kids will memorize the information needed prior to the test, but once the test is taken many of them will instantly forget the information, this also makes it miserable to "learn". However, if every test was not a "make or break" situation, students may actually enjoy learning, and once you being to enjoy it many things will go a lot smoother and improve.

    1) The RAISE Act of 2016 states that starting on the first of the year minimum wage is $8 an hour after another year minimum wage will be $9, and so on.

    3) It appealed to logos because it isn't logical to compare students to identical shirt collars.
    4) He lives in Montgomery.
    5) The influence of family environment on student performance.
    6) Although the offering of incentives may raise test scores, it could also create teachers who no longer try to get good test scores for the good of the students, but for themselves.
    7) Personally, I think that the process for obtaining a teaching degree should become more difficult for prospective educators. In this way, the unintelligent and lazy teachers who don't care about students as much won't become part of the educational system.

    1. The Rewarding Achievement and Incentivizing Successful Employees Act or the RAISE Act will provide money to teachers that improve testing and grade scores.
    2. Teaching can not be compared to a shirt factory because in the shirt factory each shirt is always the same, but in schools each student is always different.
    3. He used the shirt factory example because it is simple, easy to understand, and familiar to him.
    4. Lee lives in Montgomery.
5.The one reason that teachers in the cited study gave for why their personal efforts would not lead to student achievement gains is that the teachers could not control, and had concerns about the influence of family environment on student achievement.
    6. Offering teachers incentive for higher test scores would NOT improve the educational system because each teacher teaches differently and each student learns differently and at a different rate. While money incentives for teachers may provide incentive to try harder and improve teaching techniques, it would ultimately fail to change the basic natural learning methods of individual students.
    7. Well there is a lot of things that could improve the educational system. In my opinion, schools should teach basic skills and core classes (with a focus on reading and comprehension) up until about the 6th grade. From this point on, students should focus on developing specific skills and learning specific material THAT THEY LIKE. Students should still be required to learn basic algebra and higher level science and history, but the focus should be on the development of skills. Skills that could be the foundation for a lifelong career choice. Basically, students should be able to choose from a wide variety of electives that teach them useful skills that are applicable to real adult life. Sort of like pre-college, because that is what school is "preparing" us for, right?
