    2. The first Science Cafe was held at the International Spy Museum, featuring Dr. Cialdini and his discussion on "Propaganda and Persuasion: Psychology's Use in Intelligence". As an introduction to Dr. Cialdini, two other doctors discussed the importance and surprising simplicity of psychology. After the introduction Dr. Boghardt spoke of the history of propaganda. Propaganda simply used to be about spreading information; it was during the first World War that the meaning changed, bringing about a negative connotation to the term. His description of propaganda's history prepared the audience for Dr. Cialdini's discussion of why such techniques of persuasion work. Cialdini goes in further and discusses the six principles of influence that have helped propaganda achieve success and provides current examples of these principles. Cialdini believes that this knowledge of persuasion will be very useful.
    3. 1. Who is Peter Earnest? What was his former career?
    2. What is the public's misconception about behavioral research?
    3. What was the original definition of "propaganda"?
    4. What did Bose do to increase sales? Which principle of persuasion is this?
    5. Do you believe that propaganda still maintains a negative connotation or do you find it to be a good thing? Why do you think so?
    6. Do you think America would have done as well in WWI and WWII if propaganda was not used?If you think not, does that give propaganda a better reputation? Explain.

This article summarizes with propaganda down to its simplest form. The usage of slander and stereo typing to put the enemy at fault. This makes them seem honorable, corrupt, and in most cases savage. Think of it this way if you give the image that the enemy is a monster it is easier to kill them.

    1) What is your perspective of propaganda?
    2) What does propaganda appeal to most? pathos, logos, or ethos.
    3) What is the purpose of propaganda?
    4) In your opinion, why is propaganda effective?
    5) In your opinion, should politics was propaganda?

    * After the attacks on Pearl Harbor, American men began enlisting for war. The new conflict began when it was questioned as to who would run the men's jobs that had gone to war. The answer would be that the wives, mothers, and daughters would fill those jobs; to do so they encouraged the women to step up. They created posters that the women are saving the men by helping with building planes, boats, cars, and severely other items needed. The most famous piece of art is Rosie the Riveter. This helped pave the way for more of women rights and gender equality by standing up and stating that women can do things just as well as the men, sometimes even better.
    * Questions:
    1. Who is the artist of Rosie the Riveter?
    2. Who is the model for the art?
    3. What event led to the presence of women in the assembly lines?
    4. How would society have been different if the women had not participated in the work line?
    5. In your opinion, do you think the women should have never entered in the work or that they made the correct decision to participate.

North and South Korea are in a propaganda war. South Korea puts criticisms of North Korea over speakers. In retaliation, North Korea has begun to drop papers and cigarette butts. Many of the balloons’ timers did not function properly, so they crashed, leaving messes around South Korea, as the bags were filled with trash. The same things were used between the two countries during the Cold War.

    1. Who is the author of this article?
    2. Give an example of propaganda from this article.
    3. In what way is this propaganda? How long have we been at war with Afghanistan?
    4. Do presidential candidates seem to dodge questions about the war?
    5. In your opinion, should we withdraw troops from Afghanistan or should we continue to fight? Explain why.

The war in Afghanistan is of little concern to the President and presidential candidates. To the author, it seems that if you do not support the war you will not be voted into office. All candidates have basically dodged any questions at all about the war. Afghan civilians are dying, so this is why the war is not publicized often. It is stated that the war in Afghanistan has no real purpose, and that the United States involvement has only made the Taliban stronger. The war has not improved the confidence Afghans have in their own personal safety, most of this is due to President Obama breaking his promises multiple times. No American understands the war because it does not directly affect them.

This article is about how the government used Rosie the Riveter to portray women as the same as men in the workforce. she represents how women can make a difference and work just like the men can. Once the women started working, the war efforts increased and so did the role of women in society. Women later joined the armed forces.

    1. How much did the female percentage of the U.S. workforce increase between 1940 and 1945?

The article listed above, mainly talks about WWII and the events of it. Adolf Hitler, famously known for leading the Nazi Party which committed unheard acts of cruelty and punishment on Jews, killing 6 million people of Jewish descent, Handicapped, Gays, and other mentally or "unfit" people. Not only does he abuse his power but uses it for the totally wrong reason. He overthrows his government, he takes control and acts as a modern day absolutist ruler. Had he won WWII the world would be a much scarier, and changed place than it is today.

    1. What was Hitlers "final solution"?
    2. Who was the 19th century ruler listed in the article who proposes religious toleration and enacts legislation protecting the Jews?
    3. Where was Hitler born?
    4. Where was the first official concentration camp opened up at?

    2. At the peak of the Vietnam War, the actions of Americans to spread "news" and propaganda to the people were unprecedented. These tactics included the manipulation of the journalists, the news, and all other sorts of media to invoke interest and concern and rally an army for the ensuing war. Truths were hidden from the public and only half truths and various lies were utilized in hopes that the public would "believe" the information that was spoon-fed to them. In the end, everyone had a different perspectives and memories of the war, distorted by the deluge of propaganda.

    3. Which film made a case for how US administrations would lie to the public?

Who was the leader of the DRV at the time? Why did this person always asking for help from the superpowers at the time?

What lengths were the US willing to go to support France?

What were the methods, overall, that were extolled to the public in order gain further support for the US?

2.) John Pilger talks about how the media "decives its readers" He says that the media does not speak the truth about the upcoming of wars in the future. The media does not inform the people about everything that could lead to a world war once again - they, in other words, "sugar coat it" to make sure the readers do not panic. Pilger calls this age the "media age" because this is how the people get their information by the media, and people easily believe what they read. He tells the readers of a man, Charles Lewis, who believes that if journalist did their jobs then there was a chance America would not be in war with Iraq. If the journalist did not inform the people of their bias views of war then there is a chance that the world would be very different if journalist just spoke the truth.

This article is about the propaganda war occurring between the United states and ISIS. The article talks about how the propaganda war is being dominated by ISIS. The United states is using short one minute clips about Islams radicalism as their shield and sword compared to ISIS whose promoting featurette movies as their battle tanks and ammunition. The video released in 2015 to combat ISIS propaganda was woefully unprepared to go up against the heavy arms of ISIS, the videos released only seem to anger the radicals more. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered his military on standby for nuclear strikes at any time, state media reported Friday, but U.S. officials said there was no evidence that it had prepared to deploy any such weapons.

The threat is part of the regime's ramped-up propaganda push in the face of what it portrays as an effort by South Korea and the U.S. to overthrow its leadership.

In a show of anger over the recent adoption of harsh U.N. sanctions, the North fired off short-range projectiles into the sea Thursday. However, its nuclear-ready rhetoric may not yet reflect the country's actual nuclear capacity.

"The only way for defending the sovereignty of our nation and its right to existence under the present extreme situation is to bolster up nuclear force both in quality and quantity," a dispatch from the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, paraphrasing Kim. It said Kim stressed "the need to get the nuclear warheads deployed for national defense always on standby so as to be fired any moment."

However, senior defense officials told NBC News there were no indications the North had put any nuclear weapons on alert.

"They've made these claims before," one official said.

The U.S., which maintains constant surveillance over North Korea, estimates Kim may have as many as 10 to 16 nuclear weapons. China puts the estimate at 20.

In this satirical article published by the Onion news source, this source of propaganda suggests an opposition towards republican candidate Ben Carson. The article discusses how he has begun to float away from earth as a since of alluding to the fact that he is losing supporters in the election, thus floating away from presidency. The article states the audience stands and watches with no response to show that those watching him float do not care enough to respond or get help. He floats into space and smiles while talking about taxation which suggests that this is one of the main reasons he is losing support for his candidacy. The purpose of making this article humorous is to appeal to all audiences and keeping those interested who may not find politics interesting.
