Answer the following questions:

1. In what city will the 2014 Winter Olympics be held?
2. What role is the US playing in trying to make sure the Olympics will be safe?
3. How much access is the US getting to the Olympic security effort?  How much access SHOULD they get?
4. Considering the threat, what actions should the Russian and international tourists coming to the Olympics take, if any?  In other words, with the imminent threat of a terror attack, should the participants and spectators continue their plans as normal, or should they cancel the entire event (and give in to the terrorists' demands)?

    2. A secret operation is being held by the U.S. government in hopes to prepare for evacuation of athletes and other participants
    3. Only a few small teams of armed US forces will be allowed in Sochi. The US should get as much access as needed considering people from OUR country are going to be involved in the Olympics
    4. Maybe not go so far as to cancel the entire event, just take more security measures and hope to put a stop to any threats prior to the event

  2. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. The U.S is sending out
an unusually strong travel advisory for Americans planning on traveling to Sochi
and a secret contingency operation is underway by the U.S. government to prepare for responding to a terrorist attack in Sochi and evacuating athletes and
dignitaries, along with small armed teams of US security in Sochi. The US is
getting very little access to the Olympic security effort and should get all the
access they need because Americans are part of the Olympics and threats are
focused towards Americans. Participants and spectators should postpone the event until the terrorist are found or till everything is settled down. It is the best
way to secure everyone's safety and I don't think it is considered giving in to the terrorist because it ruins their plans.

2.) The United States is trying to make safe travel precautions to the Olympics. They are also attempting to keep their teams safe with guards, but Russia is taking more and more away.
3.) The US is not getting as much access as they want and Russia is being very secretive about things. When it comes to safety matters I believe that each country, including the US should have total access to every safety precaution available.
4.) The safety of the people should always be first priority! If there is a threat of an attack and the group is not stopped I believe that the countries participating should take into special consideration what they are putting themselves at risk of. The event is always broadcast live, thus people can watch from their homes. I do not believe that with such a threat that people should be able to come and watch, it will be easier to keep just the teams safe rather than thousands of spectators and teams.

The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi. In order to make sure that the 2014 Winter Olympics is safe, armed teams of U.S. security personnel will be allowed in Sochi. Moreover, the U.S. security is not getting much access. The Russians are not letting the U.S. in on every plan. However, the Russians should give the U.S. more information because the U.S. is making an effort to help and coming all the way to Russia to ensure the safety of others. Furthermore, the Russians and international tourists should cancel the event. Ignoring a threat could kill many people. Continuing the Olympics is not worth it.

  5. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. The united states is sending in a small team of security personals in to Russia. The United States is trying to work with Russia with security. The United States in getting a limited amount of influence in the Olympic security effort. U.S. should get a fairly small or half the influence for the security effort. Russia or any country that is holding the Olympics wants to show that they can handle anything that may come up. If other countries keep coming in to safe the hosting country it gives a bad image. Russia is almost two times as big as America with more people. America is up to date in technology and other things, but Russia is not incompetent in dealing with such affairs. The Russians and tourist need to take serious actions to prevent any disturbance that could occur. They should continue with their plans, but they need to beef up security in manpower ,weapons, technology, and strict scheduling. They would need to put us better firewall so they terrorist to not pull a Target stunt during the Olympics. If they chose to ignore the threat and spruce up the security, then things may g just find and if a disturbance comes it will swiftly be dealt with. Canceling the Olympics is a last resort because then money, time in planning the Olympics ,and training is lost.

  6. The 2014 Olympics will be held in the city of Sochi. A secret contingency operation is trying to be enforced by the U.S. government to prepare for responding to a terrorist attack in Sochi The US will have little access to the Olympic security effort. The Russians are only allowing small armed teams of U.S. security personnel to be in Sochi to make sure the Olympics is safe. The US should have total access since the Russians are using American electronic equipment. The participants and the spectators should not cancel the entire event. By doing this, it gives the terrorists’ what they want and they will always think they can destroy anybody. They should go on with their normal plans and if something goes on then the security will hopefully help out. People don’t even know if the terrorists’ will attack so therefore, go on and things will follow into place.

  7. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. The U.S. is studying the video and considers the threats very serious; however, Russia is not allowing America to become very involved. The U.S. also put out a strong travel advisory. The U.S. is not getting much access to the security effort in Russia; U.S. officials say that Russia is not cooperating with American security forces. The U.S. is getting adequate access and does not deserve any more access because this effort does not involve them directly. This dispute involves Russia, so they should be able to handle it how they please. They should cancel the event because the winter Olympics is not worth the possibility of endangering people’s lives.

    2. The US has sent a secret contingency to help prepare for terrorist attacks and to evacuate tourist and dignitaries if needed.
    3. The US only has small armed teams and are not disbuting Russian request. They are afraid that the samll amount they have been given will be taken away. I think they should get more because our athletes are there plus the US has experience with this type of situations.
4.The event should not be cancelled. This would be letting the "bad guys" win. Tourist should be on guard at all times and look for suspicious behavior. Plans may have to be changed and security must be tight and used.

  9. The Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. In trying to make sure the Olympics are a safe ordeal the United States is indeed being protective but for a good reason. The Olympics is supposed to be a fun, peaceful, family-oriented event and the U.S. is simply trying to help the Russians keep it that way and the Russians are barely allowing them to even help. They are getting the least interaction the Russians can give them. Simply because we have our own citizens going over there should greatly increase the freedom of protecting our citizens plus very other person going. That is only fair. I know that some would say to stop the Olympics altogether because of the threats; however, I disagree because all the preparation is underway and people have been looking forward to it so it would be disappointing to stop it. Plus, by going on with the Olympics it shows the terrorists that we are not afraid of their threats and we are strong enough and are united enough to overcome them. The Russian and United States should be allowed to work together to combat this threat and try to capture the terrorists and hold them but I believe the Olympics should continue on.

    2. The US is sending in small troops to protect the athletes and tourists.
    3. The US is being allowed very little access to the security effort because the Russians want to prove the point that they are too tough for terrorism by running security mostly alone. America should be allowed more troops into Russia, just to protect the innocents attending the games.
    4. I believe that as long as the citizens are thoroughly defended, the the games should go on. We shouldn't let terrorism actually terrorize us, because that it exactly what they want. It would just seem rather cowardly. Then again, I don't have to attend the games that terrorists want to destroy, so it's easy for me to say that.

The Winter Olympics is in Sochi, Russia. The US is planning to launch a "surprise
attack." The Us wants to get more involved and they should be allowed to. Russia
said they will have it under control but I think they should have all the help
they can have. A secret contingency operation is taking place by the US. If I
was personally going to the Olympics I would not go, then again some people may
want to just play out their cards. I would advise people to go at their own
    risk.

  13. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games are being held in Sochi, Russia. The United States is attempting to assist on the security front for the games after a terrorist threat was made. The Russians, however, have only allowed the US to send a small armed team to aid in evacuating athletes in the case of the attack being evacuated. They are hesitant to allow any US soldiers to assist because they feel as if they can handle it and do not need help. Since the Olympics is a worldwide event, any country involved should be allowed to assist in some way with the security of a multinational sporting event. Ultimately, though, the Russian government should be in charge of security within their own country, but they should not restrict the US so much when they offer assistance to such an event. The more people for security, the better it is for everyone involved. The US should be allowed to aid in security under the direct order of the Russian government. The Olympics should continue to take place as long as adequate security plans are made to prevent the threat. Spectators to the event still need to use more caution when deciding on going, but they need to feel safe by the government’s security. The Olympics bring in millions of dollars for the host country, so they should have more than enough money to pay for the extra security needed. In 2006, when I was going to a Braves game, there was a supposed gang violence that was going to take place, but because of the upped security at the event, nothing ever ended up happening. The upped security will also aid in this situation, so the games should not be cancelled simply because a single threat was made; the planned security should do more than enough to stop the supposed terrorists.

  14. The 2014 olympics will be held in Sochi. The US is trying to prepare a secret operation in case of a terrorist attack, this includes an evacuation plan for the athletes and dignitaries. The US is not getting much access to the security effort. They keep asking the Russians and the Russians feel as though they don't need much American help, that it is simply their thing. I think the US should be able to have more access to the Olympic security effort. Because of the terrorist threats, the Russians should change their attitude from "running their show, their own way" to "the more help the better." They should be doing anything and everything possible to assure that everyone that will be in Sochi for the Olympics will be safe. They should not cancel the event and give in to the terrorist demands. They should take the terrorist threats into consideration and do everything in their power to keep everyone and everything safe. They should monitor everything at all times and when something seems "out of whack", they need to resolve the issue.

2.) U.S. officials, intelligence officials, the state department, Homeland Security, security personnel, basically the entire U.S. Government is trying to be involved in insuring safety at the games, but mainly the safety for the Americans who will be travelling to Russia and those competing.
3.) They should get an equal share of security as the other countries that are participating in the Olympics. The U.S. does too much to "make things right" when there's really nothing for them(us) to do.
4.) It all depends on the person. Some may think the threats were meaningless and the bomb that did go off was just something to scare people off. Others may take the threats very seriously and cancel all plans. No one should put their safety in danger, even if it's a "possible" threat. It may be giving in to their demands, but going to the games just to rebel against their threats is very silly. People should take their own lives into consideration when deciding whether or not they should go.

  16. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. The U.S. is in charge of a secret operation whose main focus is to be prepared for a terrorist attack and to be ready to evacuate athletes and dignitaries in case of such a situation. Also, there will be small armed groups of U.S. security personnel located in Sochi during the Olympics. The U.S. is not getting much access to the security effort of the Olympics, considering that Russia's government is not letting the U.S. know many of the details or plans that they possess. The U.S. should get more access since they have such a powerful military and modern technology. The Russians and international tourists should be very cautious while they are in Sochi. I think that the whole event needs to be postponed and rescheduled when this threat has died down, just to be safe.

  17. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. They have issued a warning to all people traveling to the Olympics and they are sending over armed security teams. The U.S. is getting limited access to the Olympics with only a few security teams. They should be able to send as many people they think necessary because the U.S has citizens in danger there too. I think by giving into the terrorists demands you would be giving them what they want and making them think they can do this again. I think they should have as high security as they can and show that we can not be intimidated by terrorist threats.

4.) The Russians and international tourists should be very cautious with this situation. They should not put off the 2014 Winter Olympics because if they do, that will only mean that the terrorists are winning and getting what they want. It may be a high risk, but a risk worth taking.

  20. The 2014 Winter Olympics is to be held in Sochi, Russia. The U.S. is attempting to cooperate with the Russian government in terms of security, although their aid has been limited by the Russian government. The U.S. should be allotted more leeway in terms of security. I feel as if the people behind the event should not necessarily cancel, but the amount of lives on the line does outweigh a great many. Cancelling the 2014 Winter Olympics would give the terrorists a feeling of triumph that would create some sort of motivational exhibition for other terrorists. Then again, those in attendance should revise their plans for attending in regards to the precautions they take participating. I guess what I'm saying is this: yes, they should proceed with the 2014 Winter Olympics; yes, people attending should be very cautious; however, no, plans do not need to proceed routinely. Maybe I.D's and passports should checked multiple times in the company of a member from the S.W.A.T team or 2. I'm not a security expert, but I feel that a subtle alteration to the normal plans should be made in order to throw the terrorists off.

  21. The Olympics will take place in Sochi, Russia. The U.S. Is attempting to beef up security with their own security detail, however the Russians are not allowing as much U.S. Based security as the Americans would prefer. The Americans should be able to have as much security as possible, in order to secure American natives and dignitaries attending the Olympics. There should be special precautions taken to ensure that the terrorists do not succeed, and the Olympics should not be cancelled, as that would give in to the terrorists' demands and give them power and credibility. The average attendee should be watchful at all times, knowing of the threats, but the games should continue as planned as not to give validity to the terrorists' threats.

    2. The U.S. is doing everything in its power to make sure that American Olympians and all Olympians are safe. The U.S. officials feel President Putin is not fully cooperating therefore it is making it difficult to do what needs to be done to completely guarantee the American’s safety.
    3. They are getting some information but not enough. The U.S. could help greatly to secure safety and protection. The Olympics is only a couple weeks away and the U.S. does not have time to set up precautions. Putin has reassured us that all those attending the 2014 Winter Olympics will be safe and he is doing what needs to be done to secure safety measures. I feel most Olympians & the spectators will be safe so long as they are in the “ring of steel” that is surrounding Olympic park. But I don’t feel it’s wise for spectators to venture out to explore the city or country. It’s not safe.
    4. I think the Olympics should go on as planned. The athletes have trained too long and hard not to compete. I would just stay into the “ring of steel” and be cautious of everyone and everything I see that is unusual. It’s a shame that the Olympics have come to this because it’s a wonderful event.

Ultimately, the liability of American lives as well as many other foreigners lies in Russia's hands. If Russia believes that it can handle the situation, then America should let them handle it. Russia knows that lives are at stake and will take plenty precautionary measures to ensure safety.
    4) The people, Russian or not, that plan on attending the Olympics should continue to do so. Russia has the power to stop terrorists and can ask the United Nations for assistance if need be. The Terrorists can be stopped and civilians should have nothing to fear.

  26. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. The US is prepared to remove athletes and dignitaries, and will do so if the threat becomes even more severe. The US says the Russians are not cooperating as much as they would like; the Russians are only allowing a small force of US Army personnel and do not see it fit that they know of every plan in operation. The US should be informed of every move made as it could interfere with something they have planned or affect the US athletes in any way. Anyone who goes to the 2014 Winter Olympics should take precautionary measures as it could be serious, but they should not cancel the event and give in to what the terrorists' are demanding. By giving in, it shows weakness, and that they are intimidated by them. Extra precautions should be taken to ensure the safety of everyone attending, but it should not be canceled.

I think the US is a powerful nation when it comes to security so they would be able to help the Russians out more. I also believe because of the threat and recent terrorist attacks tha the 2014 Winter Olympics should be canceled, but to do so they would be complying with the terrorist. The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia. There has been a major bomb threat planned to happen during the Olympics coming up soon in Sochi, as a threat from from two unidentified men. They have already bombed a major train station 400 miles away from Sochi. The only unsafe thing about the Olympics is that only a limited amount of U.S security will be on duty and are able to be allowed in Sochi at this time. The U.S is trying to get the Russians to allow more U.S security personnel to be on duty during the Olympics to make sure it is safer for the spectators and the athletes, but the Russians are not responding like the
U.S would like them to. Only small armed teams of U.S security personnel will be allowed in Sochi to help secure and make sure everyone is protected. I feel like the U.S. is willing to protect and help secure those at the Olympics, but the Russians are denying their help, even though it would be safer to have more security considering that this threat could be put into action. The more security, the better. Considering this threat, if I were a Russian or tourist attending this event, I would watch my surroundings carefully, or I may just not go. You never really know what could happen, a bomb could go off at any minute without a threat being previously issued. They are already warned, but if the Olympics is canceled, that just makes everyone safe, rather them going, and possibly risking their lives. I feel like that you should not let fear and rumors hold you back from going places, but this threat sounds pretty serious, and the fact that the two men set a bomb off recently 400 miles away, it is a possible chance they could do the same at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The US is attempting to provide security to the people of the olympics due to a Russian terrorist threat.

Russia has every right to refuse the power-complex ridden US of the number of security people provided due to the fact that the US really has no business in trying to defend Russia, especially if Russia does not want this help.

All those attending the Olympics need to be cautious and keep an eye out for anything suspicious. Those who fear for their lives should perhaps just not attend.
