AP Language and Composition Current Events Blog for Week of November 4

This week's current events blog is going to be a little different.

Everyone's comment about global warming and the government's response to it has been made public, and we are going to have a little online debate.  Skim through your classmates' articles and find someone whose opinion differs from your own.  Using the concession-counterargument method, comment on your classmates' comment (just one) and show that you understand his/her comment and explain how your opinion differs.

Classroom debate etiquette still applies.  YOU MUST FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY IN ORDER TO GET FULL CREDIT.

  1. I understand what Emmy is saying about how the government is spending to much money on global warming, because the money can be used on other things; however, global warming is serious and can be easily resolved, but if global warming is not resolved then it would not matter how much money is spent because at that point the world would be fighting just to keep floods from the polar ice caps at bay!

I understand Silivias opinion on the topic of global warning but it is very
different then mine. I believe money should not be wasted on a global warning
because the I don't think it is a big deal. Statics show that there are no bad
signs of global warning. Research should be cut down almost all the way because
we can be saving this money on real problems. I also don't see a problem with
pollution I don't notice anything different any day when I walk outside. We have
many crisis going on in the world that need the money that is being put into
programs for global a warning.Global warning is a topic of debate but I don't
think there is much to debate other then the fact it's a waste of money.

  3. In the discussion of global warming, I do not agree with my classmate. She thinks it is okay to spend billions of dollars for the environment. I see that everyone benefits from the environment. Some benefit directly and for most Americans indirectly. We get herbs for tea from the earth, oil, corn, peas and other foods that we need to survive. If the earth is happy then people will be happy.
However, why can’t people themselves and not the government take actions to help the earth? Everyone could save a plastic bottle or two or recycle old cloths by either giving it to goodwill for people in need or make something new out of it instead of letting it rot in a land fill for x amounts of years. The money could be used to do more immediate issues and with visible results. 20 or 60% of the money could help fund scholarships, retirements, 401 K’s, school systems and bonus’s for teachers and the working public. When spending that type of money on one thing is to ignore more pressing issues.
Global warming can be helped by a little human interference like small green house campaigns or green cleaning production and recycling. Just small things to help because left alone it will accumulate like when a sink drips it puddle of water is small but as it continues to drip in grows larger and turns into a flood.
God has a plan in how He wants the earth to be. Humans are his creation and we control nothing. That is a fact

  4. I see what Janna is trying to say when she says that it needs to be prevented as much as possible. She makes a good point there but the real issue is not global warming. The real issue is that the united states does not have the money to be spending so much money on something that they don't even know they can fix. they need to spend it on more important things like border patrol to better help the economy. this is one of the reasons that we are in so much debt is because we are paying illegal aliens to live in our country who shouldn't even be there. I just think we should spend our money a little more wisely.

I disagree with iyana Grays comment. Although I do see her point about there being rumors all over the world about global warming. Some rumors include that global warming has increased over the past few years at a rapid pace. Other rumors include that it has decreased over the past few years and that it is going away . Other rumors say that it doesn't exist at all. The fact tat the temperatures and weather are not normal and have not been for a while shows that something is going on with our climate. Although we do not know everything about global warming it is still very prominent in today's discussion.

  6. I agree with Jakeias McGee that Global Warning effects all of us because it not only effects our country but the planet Earth. We all need to do our part to help our world better environmentally so that our children and their children can enjoy what we do. I believe that the concept of Global Warning is blown out of proportion. I believe that the Earth is on a cycle and the effects we are experiencing now are some of the same effects that were experienced many years before us. I do believe that money needs to be spent on research and other things to help us improve our world but sometimes I think it goes over board and needs to be rethought.
