Pre-AP English 9 Current Events Blog for Week of May 2

For this week's blog post, I want you to go back and look at last week's answers.  In the directions, I stated explicitly that your answers needed to be specific, detailed, and supported by specific evidence.  Many of you half-heartedly sent in one-sentence answers with your opinion and no evidence to support them.  Let me reiterate myself, answers such as these will receive no credit.  Re-think your answer, decide if you need to amend it or not, and RE-POST YOUR ANSWERS.

I will grade your re-posted answers this week.

I know that the year is almost over, but finish strong, and do not allow yourself to be represented by sub-par work.  Once the relief of summer comes, you'll be glad that you gave it your all until the end.

Author: Abe Lincoln. A person who is trying to strike reason into his audience that went be two different parties but we are the same.
Audience: the two parties, the ones who wish to destroy the union and the ones who want to keep it but both don't want war.
Purpose: to show that the two parties want the same thing. They want no war. They pray to The same God for the same things but neither will get a full answer.
Comparison He compares the two parties and how they both worship the same God and how them both plead to Him to be on 'their side'. He says that neither will be fully answered in their prayer because it is not Gods will.
God He uses God correctly because he shows how it links us and unifies us as Gods people. And how both are asking for the same thing just in a different perspective and how he states that if it is Gods will it will happen either way.

1.I do not think it would be a good idea in my opinion because I myself do not support Donald Trump. I believe he is not a good role model politically to the citizens of the USA. He likes to humiliate disabled people and scare immigrants. So for an elementary school to have a name of a republican named Donald Trump would be just not a good to the 5 year old and younger.
2.I think we need to consider if this person was a great person inn history and if they have accomplished something great for their country. We do not need to name a school after a person who is not politically informed and educated. So I, myself, do not think they should name a school after Donald Trump because if I was a childs parent at the school I wouldn't want to have a school named Donald Trump.

    1. In my opinion, the school should not rename the school Donald J. Trump Elementary because Donald Trump is not somebody to be proud of. Donald Trump is not a hero. Trump has not made any significant contribution to the United States in any way.

    2. When renaming a school after someone, you should want to name it after someone who made a difference in the world like Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King fought for equality all over the United States and that is why he deserved to be the name of someone's school. Naming a school after Trump will be a complete disaster.

1.The school board shouldn’t name the school after someone just because it’s popular vote. The vote shouldn’t just be on popularity because it isn’t in elections like for president, or any big major event that would require a vote. The should do an official vote on the name, and in elections the popular votes in most cases don’t win in the official election. Also just because it’s popular doesn’t mean that it’s the right decision to make, and if it’s popular now doesn’t mean that in a few years it will still be popular. The school board should keep the name of the school originally because the school never really thought about changing its name ever since it was founded in 1958 which is a long time, and if it stayed the same for so long then the name was already okay. The vote on the school should be based on fairness not popularity like an election, and it should involve the people that would be affected by the change too.

2.The main thing to think about when renaming the school is all the things that belong to it like website, and what’s all around the school. It would take a lot of money to replace all of the things that have the school name on it along with valuable time. It may seem like a good idea to change the name, but there would be more cons than pros over something that may seem simple. These problems won’t just face the school board, but also the students in the school which may have to be sent to another school while all of these changes are taking place. Another main thing to consider would also be is the person your naming the school after even worth putting their name on the school to be remember, and what has that person done to deserve it. That not only goes with schools but other things that has people names on them because they have done something great that would be worth remembering for a long time.

    1. No I don't think that they should rename the school after Donald Trump. They had their school named after a top hero of Confederacy. Donald Trump has even been elected as president yet. It is just a possibility. There are many other candidates to choose. Also they had other choices to pick from except I don't think the parents would want a school named after Willie Nelson.
    2. When choosing a name for a school you need to consider somethings before the vote. 1. what has this person done for our state/community? 2. Is this person worthy of having a building named after she/he? 3. Has the person done more good with their life than bad? 4. Will this person make a good reputation for the school? These are the main things you should consider. If the person qualifies for the job then they should have a building named after them. A name that everyone agrees on and you have a good reason. In the article it didn't state why they wanted the school to be named after Donald J Trump. If they have a good reason it possibly could be a good name if he wins \, but that's a huge IF.
