Ebola, a deadly virus, is spreading throughout Guinea and Liberia. The SIM International Personal Director, Helen Heron, says that isolation contingencies are being prepared, as well as, contingency plans being made. The outbreak began its sweep in Guinea northwest of Liberia. As of now, eighty cases have been confirmed there. Since April 1, there has been confirmation of some of the eight suspected cases in Liberia. The Ministry of Health in Liberia is working to find those who came into contact with confirmed cases for preventive purposes. Many people are being trained the correct procedure for dealing with possible cases and isolation units are being set up. This Ebola outbreak may be one of the largest in history. Samaritans Purse is giving needed equipment and has offered more. The ELWA Services Department is making necessary changes and alterations to facilities at the ELWA hospital.

  2. In the game yugioh new rules have been added. These rules are stupid. Absurd rules such as each player being able to have a field spell out and the player who goes first not being able to draw. http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/gameplay/

  3. https://www.dogonews.com/2014/3/20/tiny-planet-mercury-shrinks-further

Mercury has a liquid iron core which seems to be contracting. This contraction has caused it to form "wrinkles" on its surface that were spotted in 1974 when NASA's Mariner 10 spacecraft flew by Mercury. Mercury has contracted 4 miles into itself cause the planet to ease its way away from the other planets. The planet is now the farthest away. Other objects in the solar system have been noticed that act as Mercury, the moon and Mars have also but not in such an extreme way.

  4. Childhood obesity is taking a toll on so many Americans health and their pockets. Childhood obesity has risen in the past decade to an alarming rate. Kids that obsess now as an fourth grader will eventually become an obsess adult. Pre-school obesity has gone down over years as obesity in kids as young as fourth grader has risen. They are at the risk of joint problems, type 2 diabetes, kidney problems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure , and psychological problems because of their weight. There are three classes of obesity in the medical field. There is normal, overweight and obesity that are based on age group, height and a few other factors. The group that is at a high risk of obesity is white girls, Hispanic, and African -Americans boys. Elementary girls and adolescent boys are at a high risk of becoming obsess. There are many things out in the world that try to counter act the rising trend of obesity that is killing millions of American children and adults but it seems not do be doing anything to help. The only why to stop this dangerous trend is people to decide for themselves what to eat and not to eat. Parents need to try instill in there children the right choices so they can live a long healthy life.

The missing Malaysia plane is now its final stretch of being found. the search parties have begun to pick up signals on their radars leading them to believe that the plane is under water. The flight's "black box" (what helps locates airplanes) is what has helped the search parties in finding the missing plane; however, since the search has been going on for 31 days plane experts have said that the maximum battery life of the "black box" is only 4 days. So now the pressure is on for all of the flight's search parties. Once it is confirmed that the plane is down in the ocean the search parties will then proceed to acquire the wreckage. ~Azeeza Abdulrauf~

The Army's new band on many hairstyles has African American women has their cornrows, dreadlocks, and braids in a twist. The Army's regulations are very specific, and they are seen as offensive. Moreover, many styles are acceptable, but they must always be neat and conservative. Many black females believe that these regulations are racially biased. The problem that these women have with it is that their natural hair is viewed as unruly. This subject, altogether, is very sensitive; during slavery hair texture was used to classify which slaves were more valuable, along with the fact that features that resembled whites were preferred traits. Furthermore, there are many movements that proclaim that all hair types are beautiful. All in all, it is agreed that the Army should consider the different types of hair textures and should not be strict on these codes.

In Utah a mom happened to check her son's Facebook and saw that two guys were making threats towards her son. The boys said that they planned on shooting this women's son. The mom then made contact with her son's school, who contacted the local authorities. The police then found the boys who made the threats. The boys had drugs and a handgun. Police think that the boys were involved in a gang that was making drug deals. The mom possibly saved her son's life by simply checking her son's Facebook. Every parent should do this when their child is on any type of social media.

  8. A new virus, called the Heartbleed virus, has been found. What's troublesome is that it's not easily traced nor found, and it has been around for almost two years now. If it has infiltrated a website, then it has a way to find out people's security codes, passwords, anything. They've been trying to fix and maintain it since it was found, but no updates as of yet. (I saw this on Tumblr and I thought there would be more info on it. I'm very displeased.)

    - A summary of this article is that rescuers are currently for a teenage boy that has been lost in the water. It was reported that two people needed help in the water, it wasn't known if they were swimming or surfing. One of the people that needed help was rescued and taken to the hospital, and the other is still being looked for.

At Franklin Regional Senior Highschool, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,16 year old boy Alex Hribal allegedly stabbed 21 highschool students. Some of the witnesses say while he was stabbing them, he did not show any emotion & that his expression was how it always was. 21 kids were killed in 5 minutes, including a security guard, until Assistant Principal Sam King tackled Hribal and Hribal was then placed in handcuffs. He was charged with 4 counts of attempted homicide and 21 counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a weapon on school property. All of the victims are predicted to survive but one of the victims is in critical condition. A 17 year old student is placed at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in critical condition. He was stabbed in the liver with a large knife that missed his heart by milimeters. It's very tragic that this young, 17 year old boy is in critical condition, but a blessing that no one else was severely hurt. It's a mystery as to why Hribal would do this. Police told reporters it was heard that Hribal made a threatening phone to one of the students the night before, but was not sure if that was true or not. No one knows what triggered Hribal to do this.

  11. In the Central African Republic, war has broken out between the Christian and Muslim groups that occupy the area. Gruesome killings of both groups and civilians have been reported. On April 10, 2014, the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously to send over 12,000 peacekeepers to protect the civilians in the area from crossfire. The biggest question that arises is whether the peacekeepers will actually be able to accomplish their goal. The previous ones were taken out after having been accused of, themselves, shooting civilians in a busy market. The voted resolution calls for 10,000 soldiers and 2,000 police officers to be deployed in the area. At a time when all sort of law or court systems have collapsed in the Central African Republic, the peacekeepers are also given the task to try and reestablish the law and order in the country. Also, they are given authority to seek out and arrest war criminals for their abuses against human rights.

Republican congressman McAllister was caught kissing one of his aids on video surveillance in his office. Many other members of congress have urged him to resign his position in order to work out his family problems. Many members of Congress have claimed that he has embarrassed all of congress including Louisiana's GOP chair Villere. McAllister is married with five children and the woman he kissed is married with a 6 year old child. Her husband told interviewers that their marriage is now moving towards divorce. Many believed that McAllister was a very religious man, but Mrs.Peacock, the lady he kissed, claims that he isn't religious at all and that he claimed he only became religious to get votes. McAllister has asked for forgiveness as he works out his family issues.

North Korea is currently expanding their nuclear weapons in order to strengthen their country. Kim Jong-un claims that North Korea is still going to go through with this plan despite the warnings from the United States. Kim also won't alloy any South Korean workers to go into the Kaesong industrial park. South Korea says that North Korea has a missile within range of its coast, but it can't reach the United States.

  16. On Wednesday night, April 9, 2014, an overly obese man weighing 800 pounds has fallen and he can't get up (see what I did there). He resides in Palm Springs, Florida. Firefighters rushed to his house and were forced to cut him out of his house, since that was the only viable solution of getting the man out. They were prepared for these types of emergencies; they were equipped with a stretcher made to hold individuals who weigh up to 1,000 pounds. This occurrence, although scary, serves as a wake up call not only for this man, but for all individuals struggling with their weight, to start living a more healthy life.

A family set off sailing across the Pacific Ocean and are being heavily criticized for taking their young daughters with them. Eric and Charlotte Kaufman and their daughters, ages 1 and 3, were sailing the ocean when the 1 year old became sick. They were hundreds of miles from Mexico and had to be rescued.
Members of an Air National Guard unit operating out of Moffett Federal Airfield in the San Francisco Bay area were dispatched. Four members of the 129th Rescue Wing parachuted into the ocean, inflated a motorized boat and reached the 36-foot sailboat.
The family is safely back on land but many people are being critical of the parents saying they should have never taken such young children on such a journey. The parents are responding by saying they researched the trip and were prepared. They are asking the public to hear the whole story before making judgment.
The little girl is doing much better since being treated.

"When it was over, the powerful river of mud and debris had laid waste to Skorjanc's entire rural Washington community, killing at least 36 people and destroying dozens of homes. Skorjanc and her baby were among only a few people pulled from the rubble alive."

Wal-Mart is trying to make organic foods easier, affordable and more accessible to their shoppers. Wal-Mart, being one of the world's largest retailer is making a plan to team with Wild Oats, an organic food brand that is more affordable and provides a variety of organic foods that may be available to shoppers. 91% of Wal-Mart's shoppers stated that they would buy more organic foods if only they were sold at more affordable prices, but they don't because of how expensive organic foods are. Teaming with Wild Oats, which is a more familiar brand to organic food shoppers is allowing Wal-Mart to be its only national retailer. Statistics have stated that the sales of organic foods have risen rapidly during the past years due to the fact that shoppers have decided to pay more attention to where they food come from to avoid the cause of chemicals, diseases, and toxins. The Wild Oats brand will start out being sold in about 2,000 Wal-Mart stores worldwide , including some of its stores in the Chicago area. Wal-Mart is allowing Americans to have access to organic foods at much lower prices than other retailers.

A fisherman, Konrad Fischer, pulled the bottle with the message out of the Baltic Sea of the northern city of Kiel after it was bobbing in the sea for about 101 years. Researchers were able to identify the author and find his 62 year granddaughter Angela Erdmann. Inside the bottle that was found was a postcard with a return address on it. The person who wrote the letter and put it into the sea was 20 year old baker’s son Richard Platz who was on a hike with a nature appreciation group in 1913.—Kelsey Skurka

  25. Whole Foods takes over America:
Whole Foods taking over America can be a tremendously great thing but also a bad situation. Whole foods is very expensive but also a beneficial place. This situation is good for America because America is spending a plethora of money for healthy and organic foods. The issue with obesity is rising in America and with the help of Whole Foods, they are able to make healthy choices. While Whole food is expensive it is attracting many visitors, it managed to keep its stores and inventory from being commoditized by localizing each location and perpetuating the novel idea that a visit to the grocery store can be not only painless but also pleasant. Whole Foods has more than 7 million customer visits per week. The company often uses its bully pulpit to influence suppliers. It demanded that its cleaning supply vendors list on their packaging all ingredients, even though federal law does not mandate it. Similarly Whole Foods last year said it would require all its vendors to label products with GMOs by 2018 because the U.S. Department of Agriculture had been dragging its feet on issuing rules about labeling. But, in the meantime, competition has jumped on the bandwagon. Grocery powerhouse Kroger the second-largest seller of natural food, after Whole Foods. In saying all of this, Whole Foods is a great way to get healthy and organic food for a decent price in America.

Doctors Without Borders Blasts U.N. In South Sudan

Since December, refugees have lived in Camp Tomping near the Juba Airport. The people came to escape the violence that broke out between supporters of the former Vice President and the government that is in control. Doctors without Borders is claiming that this camp is not very healthy now and will only get worse once the rainy season starts. Water borne diseases will get worse and the refugees need to be moved to higher ground. One reason that Doctors without Borders is so upset is that the head of the UN mission Hilde Johnson even called the camp an “imminent risk of turning into a death trap, but now there is no time to move the 20,000 remaining people to safer grounds. This could be solved by expanding the camp to the space outside the barbed wire fence. Doctors without Borders feel some of the problems can be changed by just giving the people more space, but the UN feels there is no space available.

The United States government will potentially shorten the sentence for drug crimes for up to 70% of "federal drug trafficking defendants"; this proposal is backed by the Justice Department. The notion to shorten the sentences also changes the guidelines for which a defendant is sentenced and will go into effect November 1st. Attorney General Eric Holder hailed that it "represents a milestone in our effort to reshape the criminal justice system's approach to to dealing with drug offenses". This law will make it to where more serious crimes will be focused on more in depth, without having to be distracted by lesser offenses, which means fewer people will face jail time (the US currently holds 216,00 prisoners, 5% of the world's population).

The now 28 members of the European Union are getting ready for the next elections for the European Parliament, that will be held on May 22 through 25, 2014, and will designate the members of the Parliament for the next five years. This will be the eighth Europe-wide election to EU Parliament and is to date the most important for different reasons. The Treaty of Lisbon, signed in December, 2009, will apply for the first time; for the first time the Parliament will elect the President of the Commission (that will succeed current President José Manuel Barroso) on the basis of a proposal by the European Council, that takes account of European elections results (which didn't happen before). Also according to the Lisbon Treaty, the seats will be 751, less than the previous Parliament. The seats are assigned with degressive proportionality, and the member with most seats will be Germany, followed by France and UK.
This election is important and different also because of the Eurozon crisis that has been going on since 2009, and has had the hardest impact on southern European countries. Many countries are considering stopping using the Euro as their currency right now. The crisis has caused a decrease in the public approval of EU leadership and strengthened opposite extremist forces between the parties.
The results of this election will be announced on the evening of Sunday, March 25, and will affect the immediate future for Europe.

Just earlier this month, three people were killed by Spc. Ivan Lopez in a shooting at Fort Hood. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting where thirteen lost their lives to Maj. Nidal Hasan who was then put to trial and put to death soon after the shooting. This recent attack has brought to light one victim of the 2009 attack, retired Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford, who says that he, the victims, and the deceased of the 2009 attack have been denied Purple Hearts and other assistance since the government declared that attack to be a "workplace violence" rather than a terrorist attack. Hasan, the 2009 shooter, was supposedly involved in terrorist activities and sympathized with radical Islamists. President Obama also refused to meet with the 2009 victims and families at this past memorial for the recent Fort Hood shooting. Lunsford and others with the help of Reed Rubenstein have been seeing the government for their mistreatment. This article also gives personal accounts from both sides: the White House, Rudenstein, and Lunsford.
